Retrovision

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Retrovision was a regular retrogaming event in the UK, presented as a social opportunity for retro gamers to meet each others and also to play games on hardware provided by the venue.

Retrovision was first organised as a meet for the Jeff Minter fan forum Yak Yak but then later became advertised as a public event. Jeff Minter is still a frequent guest of honour, together with others from the retro and current gaming industries. Since RV2, Markie, the organiser of Retrovision, always dressed up as Ming the Merciless as a bit of fun.

A total of five public Retrovision events have been held. Retrovisions 1, 2 and 3 took place in Oxford, and Retrovisions 4 and 5 were held in Frome. There were also several smaller "point five" Retrovisions which were private events for members of the forum.

A "mini" Retrovision took place in Manchester on 10th September 2005, combined with a mini Back In Time Live.

The most recent "mini" Retrovision, RV5.25, took place in The Port Mahon pub in Oxford on 21st October 2006. It was designated a "0.25" event as it was originally just meant as a small Llamasoft / Yak Yak get together, which then grew to about 50 people.

Although Retrovision 6 was cancelled, "something new" will take it's place. "Retrovision 2007" is in the early planning stages, it is not yet decided what form or location it will take place in.
