From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Retirement Slump is used in calculating the incumbency advantage in congressional elections. The Retirement Slump is calculated by finding the difference in percentage of vote share between a retiring House Member or Senator and a new candidate. A greater difference often indicates greater incumbency advantage. This term is also tied to Sophomore Surge and Slurge.
