RESCU

RESCU or Road Emergency Services Communications Unit is a traffic management system used by the City of Toronto on city managed highways. The system is used to monitor traffic on the Don Valley Parkway, Lake Shore Boulevard and F.G. Gardiner Expressway.

The 35 km system consists of:

  • 53 traffic cameras
  • 635 vehicle sensors
  • 5 overhead changeable message signs - Gardiner and DVP
  • 4 portable signs
  • 121 detector stations (650 loops)
  • Remote Traffic Information System (RTIS) - website

RESCU is linked to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation's Freeway Management System - COMPASS).
