[edit] Applicable policies

While notability is not a policy, verifiability is. Did enough of his stubs violate WP:V to add it to the policy list? -Satori 20:10, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I thought about listing it, but his stubs are so short that it's almost always possible to verify the information included. --Scimitar parley 20:50, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
  • I have not yet encountered one of his stubs that was not about a real subject, and it has generally been possible to verify the very limited info provided and to find more info to expand the article, often with a short google search. DES (talk) 11:22, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Intentions

McClenon wrote: "In particular, I would like to know whether he creates the stubs with the intention that he will add to them, or that others will add to them."

From reading the user's talk page, I believe that his intention is for other people to add to the articles. He has written sub-stub articles and imediately put an expand tag on them. In reference to some of his articles, the user has stated that he is unable to write about them in his own words. P.S. Should I have written this somewhere in the main page or on this talk page? --JimmyTheWig 08:57, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Indeed, he has sometimes seemed peeved or distressed that other people have not proptly responded by expanding his articels, and particualrly when articles he has created have instead been nominated for deletion. DES (talk) 11:20, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

And so where should I have written this response? Here or on the main page? --JimmyTheWig 13:09, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

I just finished responding to the same on the main page before noticing the "comments on discussion" note -- oops. Anyway, reproducing here:
My apologies if this is bad RfC form, but I've followed (though not really participated in) this mess, and I think the first question McClenon asks is easily answered from Maoririder's talk page (from sections Stubs, more stubbery, Another one..., and Still at it)
  • The Schools and so on have still not been wikifyed or cleanedup. --Maoririder 15:56, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
  • No not trying to annoy people trying to make a stub and people can add on. Sorry. --Maoririder 17:16, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Strider (novel) by Beverly Clearly. --Maoririder 18:00, 2 August 2005 (UTC) People can expand and I'am sure it would be good. --Maoririder 18:00, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
  • I hope you can stick by and help out. More expanding wikifying and cleanup would really help thanks. --Maoririder 19:01, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
As for the guidelines, I can't vouch for him reading it but he has been referred to it.
I'm tossing this out to highlight what's been said apart from the "I'll do better" comments that recur.

[edit] Also on Wikinews

Maoririder, has also created many one line and a source news stories. He was also asked to stop several times on Wikinews, on the fourth or so request he slowed and eventualy stopped --Cspurrier 18:32, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Left?

I note that User:Maoririder has not made any edites since a few hours before this RfC was filed. I wonder if he logged on, saw the RfC notice, and hs decided not to say anything. He did seem to want approval a good deal, not like a troll who thrives on negative attention. DES (talk) 18:37, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I was wondering the same thing. It's possible he didn't understand the aims of the RfC; he may have construed it as some form of censure. On the other hand, maybe he just needed a break.--Scimitar parley 18:39, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
  • He's back today, and not significantly changed it seems to me. DES (talk) 21:38, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Here's a new one...

One of Maoririder's articles was placed on VFD (Kiss My *** Club) and somehow he managed to nest a VFD template on the talk page of that VFD, and put content in what was then something like Votes for deletion/Votes for deletion/Kiss My *** Club. As with his other behaviors, this does not appear intentionally disruptive, but is nonetheless a pain to clean up. I only saw it by accident by checking his latest contributions. ESkog 23:13, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

Just curious, but what content did he add to the sub-VFD page? Soltak 23:32, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

  • If I remember correctly, the entire content of the article was the word "yeh". ESkog 00:58, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

Actually this is not the first time he has placed a {{vfd}} tag on a talk page, nor the first time he has discussed on the talk page of a vfd, although it may be the first time he combined them. I suspect he wasn't intending to ask that the Vfd (or its talk page) be deleted, but was somehow indicating or reacting to the suggested deletion. DES (talk) 03:18, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] What if...

I'm not terribly familiar with RfC proceedure, having only participated in a couple. In the event that Maoririder fails to respond what's next? RfAr or are people not interested in taking it that far? Soltak 16:24, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I don't know what's next either, but something has to be done. If RfAr is the only way, it's the only way.--Scimitar parley 18:37, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Riverofdreams

User:Riverofdreams was created on 18 Aug, and is making similar types of stubs as Maoririder [1], and has made at least one edit to an article Maoririder created [2], as well as arbitrary additions of expand tags [3]. I'm wondering if it's Maoririder with a new account. -Satori 17:07, 19 August 2005 (UTC) Furthermore, Maoririder made edits from (all times PDT) 9:18 to 9:38 this morning [4], at 9:41 (three minutes later), Riverofdreams picks up [5]. -Satori 17:13, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

  • It sure looks like Maoririder ... You should tag River's user page with {{sockpuppet}} In the mean time, I think we should move ahead to RfAr Soltak 17:39, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Tagged. I agree with you. Scimitar offered to help him respond to the RfC this morning, there's been no response. Meanwhile, Maori created Donut stick. He's showing no interest in being involved in this process, or in taking the numerous oportunities he's been given to learn from users who are trying to mentor him. Between us, Scimitar, Lucky, and DES, there's at least 5 users off the top of my head that have spent serious time and effort on keeping an eye on him... Unfortunately, I think it's time to bump this up. -Satori 17:52, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
      • Yes, I find that I am spending lesstime making valuable contributions since Maoririder has joined us. We need to resolve this soon. ike9898 22:09, August 19, 2005 (UTC)

I'm now keeping an eye on User:Cursa. New nanostubs include Blow Brothers, Bow Flex (which I redired to Bowflex, but here's the first diff [6]]), and J.J. Nissen. He's also been making strange additions to Wikipedia:Reference desk [7], something User:Riverofdreams has been doing, as well. [8]. -Satori 18:08, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

And now it seems he's admitted it [9] -Satori 18:27, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
  • User:Historicperson could be another puppet ... This is really getting out of hand. If anything, his recent behavior demonstrates that he has absolutely no intention to change his ways or respond to the RfC. Originally, I had hoped that he would be able to become a valuable member of Wikipedia. Unfortunately, it seems my early optimism was pretty misguided. Soltak 19:53, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Interesting.. looks like Historicperson hasn't edited since June... but it looks very Maoririderish. I guess this saga's been going on longer than we all realized. Looks like Lucky's making another attempt to communicate with Maori, so we'll see how that goes. If it prooves unproductive and Lucky and Scimitar are ready to proceed to arbitration, I'd say that we will have consensus at that point. -Satori 20:12, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
      • I think RfAr will be neccessary if he doesn't respond to lucky. He was editting anonymously earlier today (the IP addresses are on Lucky 6.9's talk page), and stopped as soon as I tried to talk to him.--Scimitar parley 20:31, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
        • He's been at that again, too.. User:130.111.96.164 has been making nonsense requests at Wikipedia:Reference desk within the past hour. -Satori 20:45, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
          • If those IP edits are indeed Maoririder, the tone of those edits suggests (to me at least) that we are not dealing with a highly challenged newbie, but rather with a disruptive troll. ESkog 21:21, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Add to this another new user with an inappropriate user name and similar history: User:Inquisitor911. I've initiated a 48-hour block on both accounts for now. - Lucky 6.9 06:20, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] More Sockpuppetry?

I'm becomming more convinced by the minute that user:Newsreporter is Maoririder. He's been creating nanostubs, some of which I believe have already been deleted. But see Evil (song), 860-880 Lake Shore Drive Apartments for examples. (His edit summaries for his new stubs have been "I did as much as I could"). Furthermore, he's been adding almost nonsense questions to Wikipedia:Reference desk, very much in the same style as Maori's earlier puppets. [10], [11] are two recent examples. -Satori 19:43, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] RfAr

It seems to me that arbitration has become our only recourse. I've started a draft of a request at User:Satori/MaoriRfAr. Any interested parties, feel free to add your name to the initiating party, and make any edits, expansions, or corrections to what I've written. I intend to post it to the arbitration page sometime tomorrow morning, PDT. -Satori 22:46, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
