This page is a forum for requesting images from other Wikipedians for Wikipedia articles.

Contents

[edit] Using this page

Use this page to post requests for images that you would like to be used on a Wikipedia article. Others can then upload the image(s). For comments on policies, other users, technology, and other miscellaneous concerns that are not directly related to posting images, use the Wikipedia:Village Pump.

In addition to posting here, consider asking a volunteer photographer directly, using the lists at Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Photographers and Wikipedia:Photo Matching Service.

[edit] Copyright Warning

Wikipedia can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. Fair use images are sometimes also acceptable. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Wikipedia:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding {{GFDL}} to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding '{{PD-release}} to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

[edit] Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Wikipedia:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list. Note that there are separate areas below for photographs and graphics/diagrams. Please copy your request in the edit summary so that recent requests can easily be seen on the page history.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You may also wish to add an image request template such as {{reqphoto}},{{reqphotoin}}, {{reqmap}}, {{reqdiagram}}, or {{reqimageother}} to the article's talk page. This automatically lists the article in Category:Wikipedia requested images.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location. You might also ask an appropriate photographer or graphic artist. Many are willing to take requests.

[edit] Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Category:Wikipedia requested images, a page with Template:Reqimage, or by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to these pages.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image. If the license so permits, please upload the image to Wikimedia Commons[1] instead so that all the different Wikipedias can use the image.
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Larger images should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page, and the template from the talk page.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Wikipedia:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Wikipedia:List of images.

[edit] Fruits

  • Photographs of the flowers and the tree of the durian, and its less common species like Durio dulcis (red durian) and Durio graveolens (red-fleshed durian). --BorgQueen 22:30, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Requesting a picture of a real cantaloupe please. The only current image is that of a musk melon, which is commonly called a cantaloupe in the US, making it impossible to find a picture of a real one using a search online. (The distinction is explained on the talk page) -Goldom (t) (Review) 18:45, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
    • There's this Rock melon by Charles Norton (died 1872). The web site makes a questionable claim to "reproduction rights" (but not copyright). IANAL, so I have no idea if this claim is worth anything. Zeimusu | Talk page 03:24, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Art

  • Emeryville Mudflat art: Need pictures of the Emeryville Mudflat art (no longer existent). These will be old - 1960, 70, 80, early 90's. (This request is intentionally duplicated below in Place in North America.)
  • Origami tech tree - from the article, "This page needs LOTS of pictures, and maybe some animations.". —Josh Lee 02:16, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
  • Self-parody In my opinion, an artist's parody of his or her own work would be better than a self-portrait in caricature style. JerryFriedman 21:49, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
    • I couldnt really find a good example of an artist parodying their own work exactly, so instead I added an image of Duchamp's Fountain, a parody by an artist of art itself. I hope it's found appropriate.--Pharos 01:34, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
      • [Fountain] was never meant to be a parody or art (read the wikipedia page on it). This does not meet the definition of parody, much less self-parody.
        • I enjoyed seeing the picture there, but maybe it's time for something that's more exactly relevant. —JerryFriedman 18:28, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Stuart Davis (painter). I have not been able to find a picture of the artist himself and would really like to see him. Katemckenna 06:54, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
  • A photograph of the plaque of Franklin D. Roosevelt by Selma Burke. The original is still in the Recorder of Deeds Building, 515 D Street NW, Washington, D.C. It would make a good addition to the Dime (United States coin) article (as well as the currently nonexistent article on Burke herself).--chris.lawson 16:53, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
  • A picture of benjarong would be nice; the visual description really needs a photo to go along with it. Switchercat talkcont 02:11, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
    • I put a link to a flickr page with it. I mailed the guy for permission. Pending...Joegle 19:37, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
      • Granted and put on the page. Joerite 21:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
        • Well, there's nothing there now...

[edit] Chemistry/Mineralogy

  • Amphetamine - Could an adept chemist compile an image of the amphetamine analogues [2] similar to this: [3] and possibly post the image under amphetamine. Am I using the word right, are they analogues or just similar? Either way, a graphic comparison of amphetamine "type" chemicals would be very useful. Thanks. --x1987x(talk) 02:43, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I believe the word you're after is 'derivatives'. :) --Xanthine 12:18, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Dashiki
  • Power suit

[edit] Computers

Important note: When taking photographs of computer exteriors where the screen will be shown, if possible please turn the computer on and show a fairly "default" desktop. Also, place it on a very different color background from the computer case (a shirt or sheet works nicely) so a white background can replace it later, even if you cannot do this yourself. Thanks.

  • A screenshot of the Wikipedia front page on a NeXT computer running WorldWideWeb.
I started in on this, but note that WorldWideWeb does not support graphics or tables so a screenshot is unlikely to be satisfactory. cmh 04:00, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Can we have a screenshot for Windows CE 3.0, showing the front screen when the WinCE 3.0 device starts up? - Ta bu shi da yu 02:41, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
  • Macs. List of Apple Macintosh models by case type is missing the following:
    • PowerBook 100
    • PowerBook 2400
    • PowerBook G3 Series ("Wallstreet"/"Mainstreet")
    • There's a reward set for the above. Additionally, a better image for the Power Mac G4 "Graphite" would be much appreciated, but there's no reward for them, sorry ;) -- grm_wnr Esc 19:26, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
  • iPods.
    • 2G iPod Shuffle
    • 4G iPod ("Photo") - the one we have has uncertain legality; I tried investigating; no luck yet.
    • iPod games on a 5G; something better than Image:242603074 2e1f768324.jpg.
    • See [4]. Try to get a composition similar to most of the thumbnails here. Upload to there, and see if anything else is helpful.--HereToHelp 22:23, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Culture

  • Silver Ring Thing: I need a photo of one of the Silver Rings that are integral to this youth movement. There are photos out there on the 'net that I could go grab, but that would be a copyvio. If anyone knows a Silver Ring Thing kid who would be willing to have a photo taken of their ring, I'd greatly appreciate it. Kevyn 23:04, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I Think I've made some headway, but I doubt it is an "officially" sourced ring as is available from some of the referenced sited. I won't pull the request down yet in case someone else can do better, though. Weaponofmassinstruction 20:20, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Gurn. —Josh Lee 03:13, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)
  • Sicilian School - Need a picture of Frederic II (Holy Roman Emperor) that portrays him with his magna curia, his court. The members of the school were Frederick's notaries. Thanks. --Wikipedius 11:06, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
  • Teddy Boy (youth culture) - there is one picture on the page but maybe one or two more would be helpful.
  • Lomilomi massage needs image of techniques. --Viriditas 04:01, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Rectus abdominis muscle (commonly called a six pack). Actual six-pack, already have a diagram. Would have put it at #Anatmoy, but that's for diagrams. Thanks! Kilo-Lima|(talk) 15:39, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Real feline rectus abdominus muscle added, still need a picture of a real human rectus abdominus. If a see a nice one, I'll add it ;) Verloren Hoop 15:25, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Stapler This page could use a shot of a saddle stapler (maybe shots of both manual and electric versions). Saddle staplers are used for stapling brochures, putting the staple in the center of a piece of paper. A long-reach stapler would also be nice.
    • I can probably get a saddle stapler within a week, if I remember. --The Human Spellchecker 07:22, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
      • This seems to have been taken care of; does it still need to be here? 72.40.101.236 03:52, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
        • The picture uploaded is a long reach stapler, not the same thing as a saddle stapler. Could still use a saddle stapler photo. Phr (talk) 01:16, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
          • I own a saddle stapler, now I just need to find a camera . . . Crypticfirefly 03:14, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
    • How about some pictures of surgical staplers as well?--Jugglinbob 13:38, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Films

  • Ashes and Diamonds - the picture at http://ec3.images-amazon.com/images/P/0810115190.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V1056494460_.jpg or like it I need.
  • A picture for Alice (2007 film) would be good if anyone can find one. Possibly IMDB Pro users could email the producers and ask very nicely for one, I don't know.. But if anyone can help, please do! --Chaosfeary 22:40, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
  • There are missing illustrations in the Timeline of CGI in films. We need captures from a number of films that pioneered various uses of CGI. The captures should actually depict the CGI examples. See the article for descriptions of what is needed for each film. The list: Backdraft, The Flintstones, Waterworld, Conceiving Ada, Waking Life.
  • For the Monty Python article, an image from Terry Gilliam's animation Beware of the Elephants, which originally appeared on the television show Do Not Adjust Your Set. If you know where the animation or an image from it is available, please provide the source (such as a special Python DVD or a book). --[[User:Brian0918|brian0918 talk]] 16:40, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • For the List of YuYu Hakusho episodes article, if anyone might happen to have access to the DVDs or similar resource, a screenshot from each episode of the second and any later seasons. Magu2k
  • Grandview, U.S.A., film
  • Screenshots for every episode of Quantum Leap. Seasons 1 & 2 are all ready out on DVD and season 3 will be coming out on June 21. I realize this is a big request. Even if you only help with one or two episodes, your help would be greatly appreciated. The episode list can be found here. Thanks. --Mattwj2002 21:20, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • A picture for A Chump at Oxford would be nice. Sadly the Laurel and Hardy films in general appear a bit neglected at the moment. --kingboyk 07:02, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
  • A picture of the concept art of skeltal Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the caribbean.

I've added a picture of the Belgian speciality: French frites vendors. More needed. Lvr 23:05, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
I can get a picture of some Russian street food vendors (and of the food itself, if I feel daring) for you within the next week. --AVIosad 04:50, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
I added a photo of mango pickle, but haven't removed this request, as there are other types of pickle that could also be uploaded - MrAngryEyes.
  • Taramosalata - a pic of a non-commercial product (ie, some tarama being served perhaps) would be very useful (more useful than a pic of a jar). 59.167.223.225 23:23, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
  • mangelwurzel - I'd love to know what one looks like!--Moonlight Mile 03:50, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
The Latin name for mangelwurzel is Beta vulgaris, which is the same thing as ordinary beetroot. There are plenty of pictures of this plant in Wikimedia Commons. Perhaps the beetroot and mangelwurzel articles should be merged together. -- Sakurambo 桜ん坊 16:31, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

  • There are many mineral pages that would benefit from a picture of the mineral
  • Clay a microphotograph of clay, or better different types of clay.61.114.204.59 05:16, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Argyle diamond mine could really use a photo of a pink diamond (come on, I know you all have a few sitting around waiting to be photographed :) ). A pic of a "champagne"- or "cognac"-colored diamond would also be nice. These pics could be reused at Diamond (a featured article) and elsewhere. Thanks! - Bantman 17:39, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
    • I added a picture of pink diamonds from the GIA website. My company owns plenty of pink diamonds but I don't think I'm allowed to release photographs of them! They are really beautiful. Same with cognac and champagne diamonds. Pictures don't truly do them justice.--Magmagirl 21:31, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
      • I don't know about you releasing photos from your own company, but you're definitely not allowed to use GIA website photos without permission (notice the copyright info at the bottom of the page you used). I left a note at your user page too; I'm afraid the picture needs to be deleted. - Bantman 21:55, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
        • Sorry about that! I will check with my company about whether or not we can contribute a picture of one of our pink diamonds.--Magmagirl 22:22, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Cleveland Torso Murderer would probably be ready for featured article status - if it had a picture. A photo of one of the death masks (I think they show two) from the Cleveland Police Museum would be ideal, but it's a bit of a hike for me. I'll do it eventually, but if you're a Cleveland local, would you please beat me to it? Thanks. Catbar (Brian Rock) 22:55, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Runic calendar could really use an image of a Runic Calendar... maybe someone in scandanavia could get a photo at a museum?
  • Neolithic Revolution Good article content-wise, would be solid all-round with a picture or two, although it might be a difficult subject to portray pictorially
    • I added a drawing representing the Neolithic Revolution. Let me know if you find this satisfactory. --Polylerus 18:44, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

A fuller set of requests for photographs of places is sorted by location under Category:Wikipedia requested photographs. Articles can be placed in these subcategories by using {{reqphotoin}} and {{reqphotoin2}} in their talk pages. If more details need to be given or the request is seen as particularly important, the appropriate subcategory page can be edited too. If you have a camera, why not add the subcategory for your local area to your watchlist, and see if anywhere near you gets listed?

See the campus photos already on the UC page for examples of what I mean. --Coolcaesar 09:06, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

  • I realise it's not Christmas time, but a photo of a Christingle would be of use for that article! Heycos 21:28, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Kala (java) - the article mentions a famous statue which would be appropriate
  • Roger Williams (theologian) is missing a picture. I did a search of the Library of Congress' online image archives and of Google images and didn't find a good public domain image. If someone has a photo they've taken of one of the etchings of Williams or some other public-domain picture that would help that artcile out. RainbowCrane 21:24, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

25143 Itokawa has no image. Something was there previously, but then deleted. Now that the spacecraft has come and gone, its many images (and data) could significantly improve the article. Their image use policy is here:[17] I don't see any problems, but the previous images were deleted. This really is important, as only a handful of small bodies have ever been imaged in detail, and missing one of them doesn't make the article informative. (It is, after all, about the asteroid.)--Planetary 01:36, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately the license is only free for noncommercial use, which is not enough for Wikipedia. Unless you can persuade the JAXA to release an image under the GFDL, I think the NASA radar image is the best we can do. We can always still link to the JAXA images, of course. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 19:17, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
What about fair use? Could that be a possibility or not? --Planetary 22:41, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Given the free availability of the NASA image, I would assume not. -- Sakurambo 桜ん坊 11:16, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
That image isn't even being used on the Itokawa page. It's an "orphan". Oh, and 1 question. Why do other websites use the Itokawa images? I don't see any permission granted on these sites[18] They just put "Credit: ISAS/JAXA", or nothing at all, and get away with it! I don't understand! --Planetary 22:50, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Estimating World GDP, One Million B.C. - Present has at the end some very nice graphs of how the world's economy how developed. In particular, the explosive growth in GDP/capita after the industrial revolution. I think that similar graphs that can be used in Wikipedia could be created from the raw data the link provides. That would be a good addition to articles like Industrial revolution, World economy, and Economic growth.Ultramarine 19:38, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flags & Heraldry

  • Royal Standard of Norway needs and image of the pennant flag.
  • Conch Republic: Coat of arms of the Conch Republic. On website only in outline, untricked and -hatched. Who knows the tinctures or blazon?
    • I would blazon it "On a roundel, sable, a compass rose of twelve, or voided azure, environed of twelve mullets, argent; over all, a conch shell, proper. The motto 'THE CONCH REPUBLIC' above, and 'We seceded where others failed' below" -- but it has been decades since I wore the herald's baldric. ➥the Epopt 17:28, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)
      • If you're talking about that round seal of theirs, you can see a colour version on the official polo shirt < fetches own from bedroom > - it's definitely a heurte (roundel azure). Let's see... 'On a heurte, a compass rose of twelve within a roundel of mullets Or, overall a king conch proper...' and then Epopt's motto terminology.

Incidentally, the original flag which inspired the flag of the Republic is on display at the official Conch store on Duval. It's a ship flag dating from the late 1800s or early 1900s. made an image, maby not the best... - Zephyris Talk 15:16, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your work! I think the picture is good enough. Good color scheme. Just some very minor nitpicking (if you make similar pictures in the future): In the first case, it might not be clear that there's no intersection. Also, in the second case, the point could be emphasized. But, as I said, that is just nitpicking. The idea should be clear from the pictures. Haseldon 15:53, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Prewellordering: need pics for Reduction and Separation properties. For the latter I don't really want an analogue of Moschovakis' Figure 4B1; I'd rather have one that shows separation of two disjoint sets in Γ. --Trovatore 18:38, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
  • Riemann sphere needs a drawing for the version being fermented in the discussion page. It should show a sphere, the top tangent plane (or both if it would be better), and a projection or two from the south pole through the sphere onto the top plane. It should clearly be shown that the point z = a + ib on the plane corresponds to the point on the sphere that lies on the same line. Also, the top plane should be labelled as the z plane. -- Domenic Denicola 01:11, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
