Republica Deportiva
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
República Deportiva (Athletic Republic in Spanish) is a weekly two-hour Spanish language sports show shown on Sunday mornings in the United States on Univision. It is hosted by popular male television personality Fernando Fiore, one of the leading figures in sports in the U.S. and the principal anchor for Univision's 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup coverage. It also features Rosana Franco, a Spanish-language television female sportscaster, and Felix "El Gato" Fernandez, ex-football (soccer) goalie in the Primera División de México, the professional Mexican league. The show features several (12, 13, or 14 depending on the show) scantily clad young women called Senadoras as artistic background as they rarely speak. República Deportiva has highlighted many Latin American sports figures, among them is the boxer Oscar De La Hoya and World Series manager Ozzie Guillen for the Medias Blancas of Chicago.
Because of its American audience it focuses much attention to Major League baseball in the United States as well as NBA baloncesto. However, it gives constant attention to Primera División de México and some attention to the soccer leagues in the other Americas like the American MLS and the Argentine and Colombian leagues. It also shows highlights of Italian, Spanish, English and sometimes even French and German football. There is also some coverage of Formula One motor racing.
