Repercussions of Fowl Lamentation or RoFL is an album of 35 songs, satirical "rearrangements" of the music from the video game Duck Hunt for the NES. Repercussions of Fowl Lamentation was a non-profit collaboration of musicians and fans of Duck Hunt, the soundtrack of which having originally been composed by Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka.
The project was conceived as a joke by Ari "Protricity" Asulin, who created the mock project as a parody of several poorly conceived ReMix projects started up in the wake of Kong in Concert's significant success in the video game music arrangement community. Duck Hunt was chosen on account of having virtually no music to speak of. Despite (and due to) the joke, several artists took the initiative to somehow fashion "remixes" out of original tracks which themselves were mostly just sound effects. The musical styles of several artists in the video game music arrangement community were parodied as well. (Details on who parodied whom are provided in the track listing.)
The project began with prospective artists picking tracks to recreate. After a number of months, progress in the project waned, having never been a serious effort in the first place. Development resumed after the reins of the project were picked up by artists Doug "SgtRama" Arley and Ty "Suzumebachi" Guenley. Once completed, the project was released in two forms on November 6, 2004: a regular album version comprised of 22 tracks, as well as the 35 track Repercussions of Fowl Lamentation: Plutonium Edition. The Plutonium Edition of the album was created as a parody of marketing devices used by OneUp Studios and KFSS Studios, who each had released multiple versions of their VGM arrangement albums in order to increase sales.
The album was subsequently re-released and grassroots promoted as an OverClocked ReMix Site Project on April 1, 2005. As part of OCR's April Fool's Day prank that year, OCR was purchased by Electronic Arts and renamed EA ReMix. The rights to Nintendo's Duck Hunt were also purchased by EA in order to develop Duck Hunt 2005 as EA Sports' new duck hunting franchise game series, and RoFL was revealed as the game's official soundtrack. With the torrents originally having gone public for only one day, as of January 1, 2006 the CD Album OGG torrents were downloaded over 350 times.
On August 5th, 2006, the Plutonium Edition was re-released yet again in a RAR via the project homepage.
