People as well as things may repeat, so repeater has multiple meanings according to various contexts:
- In telecommunications, a repeater relays a signal after amplifying it.
- In criminology, a "repeater" is a criminal who is repeatedly convicted of the same crimes (a repeat offender).
- In watchmaking, a repeater or minute repeater, invented by Daniel Quare about 1680, is a chiming watch that will chime the time when the stem is pressed, a boon in the darkness of night when a light was not easily available.
- An album by the post-hardcore band Fugazi, is titled Repeater.
- A small hand drum used in the nyabinghi music of the Rastafari movement.
