[edit] Licensing
Under Iraqi copyright legislation, passed by The Revolution Leadership Council in 1971, a copyright lapses 25 years after the death of the author, but no more than fifty years after the publication of the work. It is shorter for private works, and there are several public interest exemptions.
If this image is under Iraqi copyright it may only be used on Wikipedia if it falls within fair use policy. |
iraqi news agency photo, according to the link. was a government controlled news agency under saddam. since saddam's government has been overthrown, i assumed the copyright issues with the photo became null.Anthonymendoza 20:31, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- in april 2004, paul bremer and the provisional government set to amend iraq copyright laws "to ensure that Iraqi copyright law meets current internationally-recognized standards of protection, and to incorporate the modern standards of the World Trade Organization into Iraqi law."[1] since under saddam iraq wasn't a part of internationally recognized standards of protection, the image in question thus wasn't protected under US law. therefore, it appears the image is in the public domain.Anthonymendoza 21:50, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
