Talk:Renewal (fencing)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The proper term for an offensive action in fencing that follows on a unsuccessful one by the same fencer is "continuation". The remise, redoublement and reprise are the official forms of continuation. (defined in the Rulebook) I don't know how to rename this article, but it should be. Kd5mdk 08:02, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- As far as I know, "renewal" and "continuation" are the same thing. The British translation of the FIE rules (which is, technically, the official one) doesn't actually mention either word: remise, redoublement and reprise all come under "Other offensive actions" (t.8(d)). [edit] Hmm
I think I'ma propose a merge. Need more Fencing.net people! The Fish 23:12, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Merge — I think this issue can be handled best by merging the articles (assuming they all exist) for remise (fencing), reprise (fencing), and redoublement (fencing) into one article titled either renewal (fencing) or continuation (fencing). Such a merge would be beneficial because the three terms are closely related and because the three terms are often used (incorrectly) interchangeably. Additionally, there is not universal agreement on the meanings of the three terms, so a single article would be an excellent place to sort that out for the reader all in one place. — Twisted86 - Talk - at 16:58, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
