From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

René Blum (Paris, 13 March 1878 - Auschwitz, 30 April 1943), choreographer, was the founder of the Ballet de l'Opera at Monte Carlo.

He was the brother of the Socialist Prime Minister of France, Léon Blum. In 1931, he was hired to form the Ballet by Prince Louis II of Monaco.

In 1943, the Italian army invaded and occupied Monaco, setting up a Fascist administration. Shortly thereafter, following Mussolini's collapse in Italy, the Wermacht occupied Monaco and began the deportation of the Jewish population. Among them was Blum, who was held in the Drancy deportation camp, then shipped to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where he was soon murdered.
