"Ren's Toothache/Big House Blues" is a double episode of The Ren and Stimpy Show. It originally aired as Episode 2a/2b of Season 2 on August 22, 1992.

"Ren's Toothache" was originally going to air with "Man's Best Friend," but Nickelodeon banned "Man's Best Friend" and aired the pilot instead.

Ren ridicules Stimpy for brushing his teeth. Ren believes brushing is a waste of time, until a massive toothache cripples him with pain. Stimpy explains why toothaches hurt so much: "Your nerve endings are the tastiest part of your body and your Tooth Beaver knows this." In a cross section of Ren's tooth we see the happy Tooth Beaver gnashing away at Ren's nerve endings. Ren eventually loses all his teeth and can only eat mush. His gum holes reek such a stench that it manages to disgust flies feasting on the poop in Stimpy's litter box.

[edit] Notes and trivia

  • The comment made by one of the flies: "Hey hey hey hey. We're trying to eat here!," was actually made by an irate patron of the Hollywood restaurant Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n Waffles who was trying to eat his lunch while John K. acted out a future R&S story for his dining companion, former Spümcø layout and storyboard artist Chris Reccardi.

This episode replaced the banned cartoon "Man's Best Friend" starring George Liquor because it was too violent, in order to fill the double episode gap. The scene when Ren maniacly beats up George with an oar was the major reason why this cartoon was banned from airing on Nick.

[edit] Big House Blues Trivia/Notes

  • The themes are switched. For Example: The end credit theme is the title card vocal and the original "opening" is the end credit vocal.
  • Episode Length: 7 Minutes 30 Seconds due from the APC version of this shorted episode
  • This episode includes all theme song clips. One of the clips from the episode was cut. It was when Ren said "I'm Posioned I Must Wash Myself" it was cut from Nick
  • Also another clip from the theme was cut: Ren kissing Stimpy (thinking he is a female) and screams his eyes out of his head.
