REN TV is one of the largest (and first of its kind) private federal channels in Russia. It has been continusouly broadcasting since January 1, 1997. REN TV was formed by Irena Lesnevskaya and Dmitriy Lesnevskiy.

It was built on the foundation laid by the REN TV television production company, whose products have been shown with success on major national channels in Russia.

The REN TV network is comprised of 406 independent broadcasting companies in Russia and in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). REN TV's programmes are received in 718 towns and cities on the territory of Russia from Kaliningrad on the West to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on the East. REN TV's potential audience is 113,5 million viewers. In addition, REN TV is working with 10 over-the-air broadcasters and 19 cable operators in the CIS and Baltic region; 181 cities are capable of receiving REN TV's signal.

Until July, 1 2005 REN TV belong to founder Irena Lesnevskaya and her son (30%) and russian energy company EES Rossii. REN TV was bought from the company RTL (30%) and the russian companies Severstal (35 %) and Surgutneftegas (35%).^[1]

REN TV has also produced several popular original TV series.

Soldaty(Russian: Солдаты, Trans.: Soldiers) A series following groups of recruits drafted into the Russian Army for their mandatory two years of military service.
Studenty (Russian: Студенты, Trans.: Students) A series following the social lives of several MGU students.
Turisty (Russian: Туристы, Trans.: Tourists) A series following several couples on vacation on a beach resort in Turkey.

All three of these shows are produced by the Company Lean-M TV.

REN TV's potential audience in Moscow and Moscow Oblast is 12,3 million people.

REN TV's target audience is a young to middle-age city worker. Even though it focuses mostly on the audience in the 18 to 45 demographic, REN TV offers programming for a wide range of demographics, since the target viewer has a family and respects family values.

REN TV still has a large production base, and most of the content it airs is manufactured by REN TV, including news programmes, soap operas, comedies, action films, and many many others.
