[edit] Story

While the official backgrounds of most Street Fighter III characters are vague at best, much can be conjectured about Remy from dialogue and endings. His purpose seems to be to convince people that violence is futile, and that the path of a warrior is ultimately self-destructive and irresponsible.

Remy makes numerous comments about a father who abandoned his family. Due to sharing a similar playstyle with Guile, many fans previously concluded that Remy is the illegitimate child of Guile (and recent fan speculation suggests Charlie). Capcom has officially denied this rumor.

[edit] Gameplay

Remy is a "charge" character, meaning his moveset is similar to that of Guile from Street Fighter II, and Charlie of the Street Fighter Alpha (Nash of Street Fighter Zero). Compared to Guile, Remy has a quicker pace, and thus is more suited for the fast-moving Street Fighter III players. Much of Remy's speed lies in quick normal attacks that allow for more versatile combo structuring, which make him a good choice for the popular "poke and run" style of play for 3rd Strike. Remy is best used defensively, as are most "charge" characters. However, his special attack, "Cold Blue Kick", allows Remy players to charge unsuspecting opponents, which opens the character up for experimentation with offensive play. However Remy's height can offer a problem against shorter characters as many of his attacks will not connect against characters like Chun-Li, or Yun Lee.

The parry system makes Remy's style of play trying, as many one-hit moves such as "Light of Virtue" and "Cold Blue Kick" are simple to parry for an experienced player. Thus, Remy players are forced to anticipate opponents' actions and respond quickly; because of this, Remy is a difficult character to use in competitive play, and is often written-off as a low-tier character.

[edit] Movelist

  • Light Of Virtue: High - Remy tosses forward a disk-like projectile which travels horizontal. Similar to Guile's Sonic Boom, this move has little recovery as well. The EX version consists of Remy throwing a High and Low version of the move, in which the high LoV wil hit first.
  • Light Of Virtue: Low - Remy crouches and tosses forward a disk-like projectile which travels horizontal and goes under most of the other projectiles. The EX version consists of Remy throwing a High and Low version of the move, in which the low LoV will hit first.
  • Rising Rage Flash - Remy performs a somersault kick similar to Charlie's Flash Kick. It serves as an excellent anti-air and knocks down the opponent upon contact.
  • Cold Blue Kick - Remy does a turning thrust kick which can go over projectiles if timed correctly.

[edit] Super Arts

  • Light Of Justice - Remy throws out nine Light of Virtues in a 3-3-3 formation of high-low-high. Has very quick recovery and can eat out other projectiles; however, the damage is fairly low.
  • Supreme Rising Rage Flash - Remy performs three consecutive Rising Rage Flashes in which the third one hits the hardest. Very useful as an anti-air and does great damage.
  • Blue Nocturne - Remy gets in a flamingo stance and if he gets hit, he counters with a barrage of punches and finishes it off with a Rising Rage Flash.

[edit] Trivia

  • Remy appears to have a one-way unwelcome rivalry with the character Alex, due to his standing as a wandering warrior. Remy's reasoning is that his own father was a wandering warrior who abandoned his family, thus, Remy takes out his frustration at his father by defeating the somewhat confused Alex in his sub-boss duel.
  • In Remy's ending, he dives into an underwater crevice to visit the preserved corpse of his sister. This is a homage to Saint Seiya's Cygnus Hyoga, who would periodically dive under the Syberian ice cleft to visit the corpse of his dead mother, which lies on a bed inside a sunken ship.
  • The symbol on Remy's leather jacket is Ω, the last letter of the Greek alphabet and often used as a symbol for death.
  • Remy has an attack called Cold Blue Kick. The character Silvia in the Capcom game Viewtiful Joe also has an attack called Cool Blue Kick. It is possible that this is a reference to the SF game.
