Reluctance motor

A reluctance motor or generator is a type of electrical machine which uses a low-reluctance metal (like soft iron) for either the rotor or the stator. It works by inducing a magnetic field, and therefore magnetic poles, in the low-reluctance material. (This is the same effect used when picking up a thumbtack with a bar magnet.) For sustained rotation, the inducing source field must oscillate in polarity, which implies using a switched electromagnet to produce the field.

A switched reluctance motor has electronics which power the coils one by one in the rotating direction.
Dual-rotor layouts provide more torque at lower price per volume or per mass.
