Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary is an international Roman Catholic religious congregation, best known in the United States for its founding of several universities and colleges named Marymount.

The congregation is all female, and the sisters use the suffix R.H.S.M. after their names. They are a congregation rather than an order, as they take only simple vows. They are not cloistered, but carry out their mission by working in the communities where they live, as educators and in other ministries.

The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary was founded in 1849 by Father Jean Gailhac in France. Mother St. Jean Pelissier Cure was the order's first Superior General.
