"Regulate" was the breakout single for Warren G and Nate Dogg. Released in the summer of 1994, the track appears on the soundtrack to the film Above the Rim and later Warren G's album Regulate... G Funk Era. Supported by heavy radio airplay and MTV, the song reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The music samples Michael McDonald's hit "I Keep Forgettin'", and also features dialogue spoken by Casey Siemaszko's character in the 1988 film Young Guns.
Swedish artist Jens Lekman mentions "Regulate" in his song "A Sweet Summer's Night on Hammer Hill."
The writing of the song forms the basis for the episode "I Keep Forgettin'" of the spoof show Yacht Rock.
