Regnosaurus (meaning "Sussex lizard") was an herbivorous stegosaurid dinosaur which lived during the Early Cretaceous Period in what is now England.

[edit] Discovery and species

The fossil remains were found near Cuckfield in Sussex, and initially thought to be from Iguanodon. However, Mantell [1]reviewed it and felt it to be of a different creature, coining the name Regnosaurus in 1848. It is known only from a right mandibular (lower jaw) fragment. A fossil pubis was also recovered on the Isle of Wight.

Recent research by Barret and Upchurch in 1995[2] suggests that it is a stegosaur similar to Huayangosaurus, as the jaws are very similar. A nomen dubium, the type specimen is Regnosaurus northamptoni.
