Guyana is divided into 10 administrative regions (listed here in alphabetical order):

  1. Barima-Waini (Region 1)
  2. Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region 7)
  3. Demerara-Mahaica (Region 4)
  4. East Berbice-Corentyne (Region 6)
  5. Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region 3)
  6. Mahaica-Berbice (Region 5)
  7. Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region 2)
  8. Potaro-Siparuni (Region 8)
  9. Upper Demerara-Berbice (Region 10)
  10. Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo (Region 9)

Each Region is administered by a Regional Democratic Council (RDC) which is headed by a Chairman. In addition there are a number of Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) within each Region. These operate at the local or village council level.
