Regency Furniture Stadium will be a 4,500-seat baseball-only stadium in Waldorf, Maryland that will open in 2008. It is to be the home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball team. With the groundbreaking for Southern Maryland's new stadium, a local company, Regency Furniture, purchased the naming rights.[1]
[edit] History
The ballpark was originally slated to be built in the town of Hughesville, but the residents voted against it in order to maintain the rural integrity of the area.[2]
There are plans to have an athletic complex surrounding Regency Furniture Stadium, which will include adjoining fields for community use. Officials close to the action wish to name the athletic complex after former Maryland senator John Thomas Parran, Jr., but details have yet to be worked out.
