Refusenik (Muslim)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Muslim refusenik is a term coined and proudly adopted by Irshad Manji, a controversial Canadian Muslim writer. She would characterize all independent-minded, liberal, anti-fundamentalist Muslims as Muslim refuseniks. However, it is not clear that the term is actually used by anyone other than Ms. Manji, unless it is in reference to Ms. Manji.

The term refusenik is an English-Russian portmanteau word first used for Russian Jews prevented from immigrating to Israel and then for Israelis who refused to do army service on the West Bank.
