Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia. When you get a chance, drop us a note at Wikipedia:New user log to introduce yourself.

If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.

You can sign your name on talk pages by using " ~~~ " for your username and " ~~~~ " for your username and a timestamp.

Welcome is a good place to start. Wikipedia:How does one edit a page gives editing help. Wikipedia:Manual of Style gives formatting info. Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines tell about the principles we operate on. It's important, but don't try to read it all now. Wikipedia:Help covers a broad range of useful topics. Wikipedia:Village pump is a place to ask questions. Wikipedia:Show preview explains how to double-check your edits before saving.

You should also feel free to drop me a question on my talk page. I'll answer if I'm here.

[edit] Can you help me?

Hi Redux, how is everything?

Remember Global Reserve Bank? Well I given up the article even though it is a shame, it relly should be somekind of info about GRB it has its place in history and in the world so why not on Wikipedia? I am not skilled and connected enough to protect or argument for the case, and I understand nothing about the critisism and the term that is used :-0

Any how, the good thing is that it will make me motivated and to learn and get more active on Wiki.

Now I am "stalked" by Calton and I wonder how I could get a decent evaluation about www.grb.net to be a link on Ecological Economy? [1]

[edit] Request for username change

Hello. A fellow wikipedian from sl: contacted me in order to change his username at en: Since I don't have that kind of permission, I ask you, as a bueraucrat, if you could change his name from User:Mihael Simonič to User:Mihael Simonic (the last letter is making him problems as it is not in the English alphabeth). Regards and thanks, Tone 07:59, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Please, can you change my name. Greetings. --Mihael Simonič 18:29, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. --Mihael Simonic 12:54, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Username change

Hey man, I saw someone noted that I changed my name. This is correct. However, I read on the page (WP:CHU) that contributions may not be merged between accounts. As I have made edits with this account (not knowing this policy), this will not be possible? Is this correct? - 84.9.12.102 11:14, 28 September 2006 (UTC) (Francis Tyers -- having trouble logging in).

Actually the question was about User:FrancisTyers vs. User:Francis Tyers. But the same rules apply :) Thanks for your answer. - Francis Tyers · 15:56, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
If I may just butt in here, we were just discussing something else we need bureaucrat advice for: Francis' user name shift is related to his voluntary desysopping the other day, and a couple of us have been trying to convince him to take that back. It was my impression that after a voluntary desysopping one could get adminship back without going through a formal RfA, is that correct? And, would it be possible to get the adminship transferred to the new account, if Francis choses to stick to that one? Fut.Perf. 16:09, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
What were the circumstances of Francis's voluntary desysopping? Generally, if a sysop requests desysopping due to burn out, or because s/he was going to leave (but changed his mind), or a similar reason, then you are right, we can resysop without the need for a new RfA. But if the sysop requested the desysopping in the wake of a controversial situation (such as a wheel war, or some other incident), then a new RfA is normally recommended. And yes, we can transfer sysophood to the new account, there's precedent for that. All I'd need is inequivocal proof that the new account is controlled by the same person. Redux 16:18, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Controversial situation? Well, maybe a borderline case. It was a borderline 3RR offence in an exceedingly trivial matter at Template:EU countries and candidates. Francis made a minor edit (of an aesthetic rather than substantial nature) [2], apparently not being aware that the same change had been proposed by someone else earlier, and then reverted to it three times, unaware that the first edit had technically also been a revert. He and his opponent reported each other at WP:AN3 [3] and got both routinely blocked by William Connolley. Francis requested desysopping the next day. Reactions are here and here. (Well, sorry for the category, that's perhaps a bit on the silly side, but the point is at least eight editors in good standing have entreated him to stay.) As for identity of the accounts, that's no problem, because both accounts have edited each other's pages. ([4], [5]) Fut.Perf. 16:44, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Humm, a 3RR violation, apparently accidental. He didn't use rollback to revert, and didn't unblock himself after being blocked for it (in fact requested desysopping). Does seem like this was not something warranted — an admin is only requested to respect the block if s/he gets blocked for a 3RR, not give up the mop. He didn't violate policy as an admin, so he probably could get the buttons back if he requested it. But does he want to be resysopped? Redux 16:58, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Not yet, we're working on it though :-) For now, thanks for the advice. Fut.Perf. 17:11, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the two accounts (actually I have three) FrancisTyers (talk contribs), f-m-t (talk contribs) and Francis Tyers (talk contribs). I'd like to keep the two non-used ones redirecting to my main one. The first for historical reasons, the second for reasons of sig-brevity (Being able to have both User and User_talk in the same sig without it being horribly long). All three are under my control, and all three are based my real name, "Francis Morton Tyers". About the desysopping... I feel that admins should be held to a higher standard. I clearly didn't meet that in this case. I'd like to make sure that non-involved members of the community feel that I am still "admin material". Of course if this is going to be a case of "disrupting Wikipedia to make a point" (I hope not!) then by all means resysopping without an RfA would be fine. Basically, I would like to be an admin again at some point in the future, in a month or few, but I want to make sure that people think I'm still up to the job. - Francis Tyers · 17:17, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Humm, it seems to me that you would actually want a new RfA. That's how you'd get uninvolved community members to vouch for your deserving to be an admin again. Redux 17:52, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Templates on WP:CHU

Thanks for the headsup. I wonder if we should add a note to WP:BUR. I use that page as a reference for what to do, when I haven't done it enough to have the steps memorized. I'm just going back to being active, guess I have a few things to catch up on. -- Pakaran 21:52, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

OK, that's fine. It's a few months since I did any renames; I go through some whenever I notice a backlog. I'll add it to the instructions at WP:BUR so that all bureaucrats can follow the procedure for the bot. Warofdreams talk 23:39, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Brazilian Imperial Crown.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Brazilian Imperial Crown.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. YellowDot 15:35, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User Lesfer's persistent violations toward WP:CIV

Redux, if you would please advise editor Lesfer to refrain from personal attacks, specifically (Don't be such a cry baby, kid. Grow up.), and here (really, how old are you? 10?). Thank you. NetK 04:01, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, Redux. Please, check articles Nuklon and Hyperion (comics) recent edits. Then check my talk page, Netkinetic's and CrystalB4's. You'll see I I've done nothing wrong and I've got nothing to hide. Unfortunately this user has a personal grudge against me. Sorry for the headache. Regards. —Lesfer (t/c/@) 04:09, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Greetings Redux. As to the articles in question, there is a semantic difference in how Lesfer and myself view the categories as they are assigned to specific individuals with two aliases. It is not myself but Lesfer who appears to have "a personal grudge against me" (please see the aforementioned personal attacks and incivility), however unlike my esteemed fellow editor I wish to WP:AGF on his behalf and hope you can instruct him that such terms as "kid" here in North America are viewed in a condescending manner. Thank you for your time. NetK 04:17, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Because of my previous interactions with the both of you, I'd rather not have the final word in this. I will request that a third-party Administrator (or more) look into it. I may provide insight on said thread, though. As soon as I create it, I will link it here. Your messages above will be copied into it. Regards, Redux 00:43, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orléans-Braganza

Hello Redux;

Thank you for the message. The reason for my move (which I ought to have included) is that Orléans is the form used in English, as well as in French. The acute accent over the 'e' is integral in the pronounciation of the name. In English, all of the French and Spanish members of this house are Orléans as well. Not only were the moves intended to reflect proper English form, the moves were also intended to bring about consistency (even though that itself is not a particular Wikipedia convention, it is generally desirable).

Eminent royal scholar Guy Stair Sainty, who I believe knows members of the House of Orléans-Braganza personally, uses the designation with the acute accent for them. Charles 14:43, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I believe the ones I moved were on the template... I am not too sure. I did a list of a bunch of them a while back and do others as I find them. There isn't an article as such that really lists members of the Imperial Family of Brazil, so it is hard to find all of them. Where are the others that should be moved located? Charles 21:08, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RFCU IP check

If we assume that the request was put in the proper section, Jon254 wants you to check Bobby the Funkmaster's IP and block it if its an open proxy. Kevin_b_er 23:01, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Ahh yes, I just looked up above this. A new checkuser is a good thing. You may find Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Indicators to be helpful if you so choose to use them. They're quick and to the point. If its not already apparent, using anything above "Additional information needed." as of right now pretty much means you've used the tool if you don't say much else. There's also {{Confirmed-nc}} which isn't listed there and one that says something about checkuser not being a crystal ball, but I can't find that one at the moment. Last, if you want to bug some informal clerks, ask here. We also can summarize a checkuser requests over there, its only happened twice since it was set up. Kevin_b_er 23:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Working Man's Barnstar and Barnstar of Diligence

Hi! evrik suggested I contact you since you're associated with WikiProject Awards. After some discussion about changing the name of the "Working Man's Barnstar" to something gender inclusive, we realized that there is not much distinction between "Working Man's Barnstar" and the "Barnstar of Diligence". In order to avoid an overly-PC rename of "Working Man's", and given that there's not much difference between the two anyway, I thought it'd be best to conflate the two awards and have only "The Barnstar of Diligence." Your opinion on the matter would be much appreciated! The discussion can be found here. Cheers! -- Merope Talk 17:44, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Username change -- a problem has occured

Hey there Redux how you doing? I just thought I'd ask you a few things regarding a change in my username (see the comment you wrote on my discussion page). You see, although my username has been changed to this new username, my old username is still found around Wikipedia on various pages where I left comments on discussion pages. Also, my old username is searchable by Google -- Google tells that my old username has been redirected to this new username. So much for the privacy I sought in the first place. One may as well not have done a username change. Is there anything that can be done to fix this please? I have contributed a lot to Wikipedia and this problem discourages my effort to continue working to improve Wikipedia articles. Cheers. 12:51, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Dear Redux -- I received your helpful message and advice about the above issue. Wanna say Obrigado heaps for getting back and fixing up some of the stuff for me (*.~). For Redux for duties above and beyond

Way back in July, 2005, you gave me a cigar in celebration of the fact that you had passed 3000 edits. I was around a similar number at the time. Well, now my combined total is over 25,000 edits according to interiot's tool. So, here's a cupcake to celebrate this. However, my edits are generally simple reversions or warnings. Important work, sure, but you take on the even more thankless tasks of changing peoples' names, performing checkusers, and the like. So the cupcake is also to thank you for all the work you perform to keep Wikipedia running. --Yamla 00:16, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Additions to the Flamengo article

Hi. I found all those tournaments in either Flamengo's official website and Almanaque do Flamengo book (Editora Abril book by Roberto Assaf and Clóvis Martins). Most of the tournaments are minor friendly tournaments like the Ramon de Carranza Trophy or Teresa Herrera. According to Flamengo's official website, the Marlboro Cup was actually played in the USA, not Japan. Also the Napole Tournament is wrong named, the correct name should be something like Napoli City Tournament). I suggest keeping all those tournaments, but move them to a separated subsection named Friendly tournaments. If you agree, I can move them to that subsection. [edit] WikiProject Awards News

There are several issues that the WikiProject needs to address.

  1. Do we need a coordinator (or more than one) to coordinate our efforts and act as an arbiter? Please place your thoughts here.
  2. Could someone work on archiving the talk page Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Awards?
  3. Do we need to develop better guidelines for the Wikipedia:WikiProject awards?
  4. Finally, could you please weigh in on the following discussions so we can move them to conclusion:
    1. LGBT Barnstar
    2. Islamic Award
    3. Working Man’s Barnstar.

[edit] Image:Brazilian Imperial Crown.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Brazilian Imperial Crown.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 20:30, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
