Redhouse
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Redhouse (An Tigh Rua in Irish) is a small village in County Kilkenny, Ireland located midway between the towns of Callan and Kilmanagh. Redhouse is noted in historical records as having a well which was used by thousands during the Irish potato famine as many other wells in the area had gone dry. To this is attributed a higher than average survival rate in the area during the famine. Although the village is named Redhouse, no house there has ever been painted red or built with red bricks and, to this day, no explanation has ever been found for its naming.
