Rederiet

Rederiet , ( High Seas or The Shipping Company ) was a Swedish long running soap opera (318 episodes) on Swedish TV (1992 – 2002). The cast featured many popular and renowned actors in Sweden.
The 45-minute show ran weekly on Thursday nights on the public service channel 1 and had normally 1-2 millions viewers.

The story is about a shipping company which conducts passenger traffic on the Baltic Sea between Stockholm in Sweden and Åbo in Finland.
The story takes place on board the ship m/s Freja. The audience gets to follow the life on board the ship, mostly that of the crew and captain, but also some of the passengers. There are accidents, deaths, murders, smuggling, theft, arson, rape, drugs, insanity and many other things going on. People fall in love and break up.
Another part of the story takes place on land with the life of the Dahlén-family, which is the capitalist family that owns and runs the shipping company. And there are also other people who try to gain control over the company, rival capitalists, which leads to a constant struggle for the power.
