The Red Pepper is a daily tabloid newspaper in Uganda. Known for its sensationalism, the paper has roused the ire of the Ugandan government for revealing that former foreign minister James Wapakhabulo died of AIDS and publishing conspiracy theories relating to the death of Sudanese vice-president John Garang in a helicopter crash.
In September 2006, the Red Pepper announced its intentions to publish the names and occupations of gay and lesbian individuals, which could expose them to harassment by the government, as homosexuality in Uganda remains illegal. [1] This decision was sharply criticized by the GLBT advocacy group Human Rights Watch.
