"Red Eye" is a homemade alcoholic drink traditionally consumed at special events or during special occasions in rural areas of the upper Midwest.
The drink is most often comprised of one part flavored sauce mixed with one part high percentage flavorless alcohol such as Everclear to produce a delicious-yet-extremely alcoholic brew. Because of its potency, Red Eye is nearly always taken as a shot, not as a drink.
Popular flavors of Red Eye include Apple Pie Red Eye, which tastes similar to a bite of apple pie, and Cinnamon Red Eye, which resembles Hot Tamales.
