Audio sample (help·info) This was the first single featuring new band-member Amelle Berrabah, who re-recorded parts of the song following the departure of Mutya Buena in December 2005. The single was released on March 6, 2006, while the new version was previewed on BBC Radio One on January 17, 2006. As a B-side to Red Dress the Sugababes have re-recorded the Arctic Monkeys' song "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", which was received with a mixed reception. The main riff to the song is sampled from a classic Northern Soul track, 'Landslide', recorded by Tony Clarke. Also the Animotion cover, "Obsession" taken from Taller In More Ways, is dubbed as an additional B-side.

On iTunes there a special download of the Extended Version of the single which includes a longer intro, another verse from Keisha (possibly recorded from the original sessions) before her first bridge and there is a repeat of the secondary chorus the first time it is sung by Amelle.

The music video shows the girls walking like they are in a runway. Also, in some parts of the video, the girls are on a a white shag carpet. Amelle is singing on a couch and Heidi on a hanging hoop in thier own verses

Red Dress debuted and peaked at #4 on the UK singles chart, making it their 3rd consecutive top 5 hit in the UK. It was a top-twenty hit in most countries reaching #12 in Ireland and #16 in New Zealand. The track also reached the top 30 in Germany and Australia reaching #27 and #22. This was one of the Sugababes' biggest hits in Australia surpassing previous singles like "Hole in the Head" which reached #25 and "Too Lost in You" which reached #31.
