Red 5

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Red 5 was a German Techno / Dance group from the Late 1990s formed by Thomas Kukula.

Probably the biggest hit was "I Love You/Stop" from 1997.

Red 5 is also the call-sign of X-Wing fighter that Luke Skywalker pilots in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In the original edit of the movie, we see Luke walk under what appears to be his X-Wing, which is clearly labeled as Red 1. However, the re-releases include a scene that was cut, in which Luke talks to Biggs, and it is clear that Biggs is the pilot of Red 1, and Luke climbs aboard Red 5.

Red 5 is also the name of a Laser Quest member who plays for the Clinton Township, MI center.

Red 5 is also the name of an open source project, written in Java, that can do many of the same functions as Adobe's Flash Media Server. From its home page on osflash.org:

Red5 is a server that not only streams content to the Flash plugin, but it can push calls and information to the Flash client! It can also receive video/audio/data from a flash client and either save or rebroadcast that content.

  • Real-time Multi-player gaming
  • Multi-user video chat
  • Stream Music/Audio
  • Stream video
  • Broadcast Live Streams to anyone with a flash client
  • Record Video
  • Record Audio

Red 5 is also the name of a studio formed by three key former members of the World of Warcraft team from Blizzard entertainment in August 2005. Red 5 Studios is currently developing next-generation MMO games for the PC.
