Red (sometimes called Big Red) is a fictional character (an anthropomorphic fire engine) in Pixar's animated feature film Cars. He is a silent fire truck who waters his flowers many times a day. He is said to be extremely shy, to the point that he avoids speaking whenever he can; his voice is only heard when he gasps several times when Lightning McQueen is wrecking the town, a chuckle over a silly comment made by Lizzie, and two bouts of uncontrollable bawling. During both crying episodes, Red speeds away from the other characters, invariably knocking over the same stack of tires when rounding a corner. However, Red is evidently capable of speech, even if he doesn't make the ability obvious in the film; If one has an exceptional stereo system, Red's voice can be heard during the courtroom scene when the entire population of the town is speaking in unison, and when McQueen is found by the press he can be seen in the background clearly answering a question from a reporter, but is not heard. The only other clearly-audible sound he makes is sounding his airhorn to protect his beloved flowers (which he spends the majority of the film watering) from a stampede of Tractors. Red is voiced by Joe Ranft, who also voiced a Peterbilt whom Lightning encountered en route to Radiator Springs after mistaking him for Mack.

Red is absent in the video game, presumably because of his obscurity in the movie (some speculate that his absence is out of respect for Ranft, who died before the film was released, but Ranft was still alive at the time that the game was finished). His name could be a reference to the Pixar short film Red's Dream.
