RedDot

RedDot Solutions is a German-based corporation which licenses software to create and manage content, typically for websites. RedDot's software products XCMS (Extended Content Management System), CMS (Web Content Management Software) and LiveServer which are intended for use in for document management, business process workflow, personalization and collaboration. RedDot Solutions has more than 1,700 clients worldwide.

Its core product, RedDot CMS is a windows based server application that aims to allow simple Web content management: "everywhere you have red dot, you can click to do something". The editing of content can be done in context, with the page displayed similarly to the way it would for a regular visitor. Paragraphs, images, etc. may be accompanied by a "red dot" icon that can be clicked to allow editing of the item. The latest English language release of Reddot CMS is version 7.1.

The following issues are outstanding as at version 7.1 of RedDot CMS:

  • RedDot CMS bundled text editor
    • does not remove all Microsoft Word tags.
    • does not work in non-Internet Explorer browsers.
    • modifies the html code behind text in unexpected ways (such as removing whitespace, converting html tags to uppercase, removing doctypes)
  • The "SmartTree" functionality does not work in non-Internet Explorer browsers.
  • Editors can only assign one keyword at a time to content.
