As a heteronym, record has a similar meaning for both noun and verb usage, but is pronounced differently depending on usage . In noun usage, it refers to a medium with stored data; in verb usage, it refers to the process of storing the data. More specifically:

• Gramophone record (also called a "phonograph record")

• World record, an unsurpassed accomplishment or statistic
• Record (computer science), an object composition
  • Database record, a single entry with interdependent stats (fields) or a row when viewing multiple entries in a list
