Reborn!, known in Japan as Tutor Hitman Reborn! (家庭教師ヒットマンREBORN! Katekyō Hittoman Reborn!?), is a comedy manga written and illustrated by Akira Amano.

Reborn! is about a boy, Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada, who is chosen to become a mafia boss. Tsuna unwillingly undergoes training from Reborn, an assassin from Italy. Timoteo a.k.a. "Vongola IX," the head of the Vongola Famiglia ("Famiglia" is "family" in Italian), sent Reborn to train Tsuna; the first Vongola boss moved to Japan, and Tsuna was his great-great-great grandson; the other candidates for the position of the head of the Vongola family died. Enrico, who was the leading candidate to become "Vongola X", died in a gun battle. Massimo, the second, "sleeps with the fishes." Federico, the favored son, was found as a pile of bones. For these reasons, Tsuna is the only remaining heir.

Reborn's main instrument of choice in teaching Tsuna is the Deathperation Shot ('dying will bullet' in the Japanese versions) which will make the person be "reborn" as a stronger self intent on fulfilling his dying will.

The manga is published in Japan by Shueisha's Jump Comics imprint.

Viz Media recently licensed this series for release in the US in October of 2006; the title will simply be "Reborn!" , removing "Katekyo Hitman" from the title for unknown reasons. The first episode of the anime version first aired around October, 2006.

[edit] Characters List

[edit] Protagonists

  • Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada (沢田綱吉 Sawada Tsunayoshi, ツナ Tsuna) - Tsuna is an unwilling mob-boss-in-training. The reason Tsuna was recruited was because the first Vongola boss moved to Japan. Tsuna is his great-great-great grandson. The other candidates for the position of the head of the Vongola family died. Before Reborn finds Tsuna, Tsuna is known as "Loser Tsuna" for his poor grades and bad luck. When shot with Reborn's gun, Tsuna would normally die, but since he has not completed his goals in life (i.e. tell Kyoko Sasagawa that he loves her), so he comes back as a powerful naked warrior with a flame on his forehead and blanked our eyes. After five minutes, he turns back into normal Tsuna.
  • Reborn (リボーン Rebōn) - The impish hitman who drags Tsuna into becoming a mob boss. The head of the Vongola Famiglia sent Reborn to train Tsuna. When at Tsuna's school, Reborn usually hides in the fire extinguisher cabinet. Reborn uses "Ciao-su" (a mix of the Italian "ciao" and the Japanese "osu", which is a casual male greeting equivalent to the English "Yo!" or "Wassup!")
  • Hayato Gokudera (獄寺隼人 Gokudera Hayato) - A transfer student to Tsuna's class. Hayato, who had previously studied in Italy, is a dynamite expert nicknamed "Smokin' Bomb Hayato." Hayato tests Tsuna's worthiness for becoming the heir to the Vongola Famiglia.
  • Bianchi (ビアンキ Bianki) Hayato's half-sister; her specialty is her poison cooking I and II.
  • Takeshi Yamamoto (山本武 Yamamoto Takeshi) - Takeshi is the popular baseball star of Tsuna's school. He becomes friends with Tsuna, and Reborn tries to recruit him into the Vongola Famiglia. He hardly takes anything seriously, and is often tricked by Reborn because he says that "It's a game".
  • Kyoko Sasagawa (笹川京子 Sasagawa Kyōko) - The girl that Tsuna admires.
  • Ryohei Sasagawa (笹川了平 Sasagawa Ryōhei) - Kyoko's older brother who is obssessed with boxing.
  • Leon (レオン Reon) - Reborn's chameleon companion, who sits on Reborn's fedora. He can change shape and color into Reborn's desire.
  • Lambo (ランボ Ranbo) - A 5-year-old assassin affiliated with the Bovino Famiglia who comes to Japan to kill Reborn. He possesses the ten-year cannon, which turns the target into a ten years older version of themselves for a few minutes. When Lambo uses it on himself, he switches himself with his 15-year-old self(he ditches his cowsuit at this age). But once Bianchi sees the "Adult Lambo", she starts to try killing him, because he looks exactly like her ex-boyfriend, Romeo. "Bovino" means "cow" in Italian.
  • Ipin (イーピン Īpin) - Ipin is an assassin from Hong Kong, and only speaks in nothing but Chinese. Even though this 5-year-old little girl can't speak Japanese, the 15-year-old "Adult Ipin" eventually enters a Japanese College, and despite the fact that she is one of the most promising young assassins, she will work part-time at a Chinese Restaurant ten years later. She has a crush on Kyoya Hibari, who looks like her teacher.
  • Kyoya Hibari (雲雀恭弥 Hibari Kyōya) - Hibari is the leader of the Discipline Committee, even so, he is a violent delinquent who likes being alone. If he is amongst a crowd, he tends to play violent "games" with rules like "I'll kill anyone who wakes me up when I'm sleeping", and as mentioned, the loser often has to pay the price with his life. Hibari may be a violent and cruel person at times, but he is very proud of his school, and is apparently the only person who likes their school's song, even using it as his ringtone.
  • Haru Miura (三浦ハル Miura Haru) - The girl who likes Tsuna.
  • Nana Sawada (沢田奈々 Sawada Nana) - Tsuna's mother.
  • Iemitsu Sawada (沢田家光 Sawada Iemitsu) - Tsuna's father. Iemitsu is the great-great grandson of the first Vongola boss.
  • Hana Kurokawa (黒川花 Kurokawa Hana)- A classmate of Tsuna. She has a crush on the 15- year-old "Adult Lambo", but ironically, she hates children.
  • Timoteo a.k.a. Vongola IX - The head of the Vongola crime family. Vongola means "clam" in Italian.
