Rear admiral is a commissioned Starfleet officer rank in the fictional universe of Star Trek.

The 22nd century Earth Starfleet includes the rank of rear admiral (Ent: "Broken Bow") above commodore and below vice admiral.

James T. Kirk was promoted to rear admiral and served as chief of Starfleet operations for two and a half years before the events of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Although not emphatically confirmed by Star Trek canon, it seems that between the TOS-era films and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Starfleet eliminated the rank of commodore and divided the rear admiral rank into "lower" and "upper" halves (similar to what happened in several real world navies). Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Mark Jameson is the first 24th century flag officer to appear (TNG: "Too Short a Season"). Lower and upper half rear admirals appear throughout the rest of TNG's first season ("Coming of Age", "Conspiracy").

No lower half rear admirals appear after the transition to a pip-based admiral rank system; only two-pip rear admirals appear beyond TNG's first season, and the one-pip lower half insignia is conjecture.

Star Trek rear admirals include:
