Real Personal Trooper Type-1, known better as R-1, is a fictional giant robot from the Japanese video game series Super Robot Wars. It has appeared in Shin SRW, Super Robot Wars Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 3, as well as both Original Generation games. A variation of R-1 known as R-1 Kai appears in Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden. R-1 Altered for the Banpreios project has been mentioned, but has not yet appeared in any games. Its appearance and the transformation into the transatmospheric flight-capable R-Wing suggest that its design was based on that of the Zeta Gundam, although its design suggests it has elements based off of other mecha by Hajime Katoki, such as Cyber Troopers Virtual On's MBV-707G Temjin and several different Gundams.

[edit] Description

R-1 is a humanoid machine that is proportioned well. It is colored in bright colors. This includes its dominant white color sceheme as well as blue and red on various parts of its arms, shoulders, head, and legs.

[edit] Technical and historical

The SRX Project spawned in an attempt to counter existing threats to the Earth required a set of robots to form the mighty machine that would combine into the Super Robot Type-X (SRX). This began the development of the R-Series mecha. The core unit of SRX was to be the Real Personal Trooper Type-1, or R-1. In the Original Generation games, it is noted that the R-1 is based off of the units PTX-006 Wild Raubiter and RTX-009L Huckbein. This unit is powered by a nuclear fusion engine. Because it uses the T-LINK System, it requires a psycho-driver pilot. The T-Link System allows better damage to be done with the R-1's melee attacks. The R-1 has the ability to transform into a jet-like craft known as the R-Wing.

The R-1 is piloted by a very promising psycho-driver named Ryusei Date. He would play a very instrumental role in the SRX Project. He would use R-1 well and also do well as the pilot of SRX. After the war with the Aerogator army from the Balmar Empire in Super Robot Wars Alpha, the R-Series mecha were dismantled one by one. After the Alpha Numbers are sent to the future, however, Ryussei discovers the R-1 Kai. Its appearance and capabilities are similar to the original; however, it lacks the ability to transform as well as Ryusei's personal markings. After the AEGIS Project is completed, R-1 Kai disappears, presumably due to changes in future history.

As the Balmar begin their full-on invasion of the Balmar Empire begins in Super Robot Wars Alpha 3, the R-Series mecha are rebuilt. The SRX, however, is destroyed by Hazal Gozzo. During this time, however, the project to build SRX Altered Banpreios is in the works, and in the process an R-1 Altered is to act as the core machine of the unit. However, the combining plan is cancelled so instead of three separate units Banpreios is built as a single, inseparable unit (although the 3 units still exist in the design, allowing the feature to be activated in the future).

R-1 would also spawn a mass production series, called R-Blade, although these mass-produced versions lack the T-link system and transformation capabilities.

[edit] R-1/R-1 Kai Specifications

Height: 19.1 meters

Weight: 50.2 tons

Weapon Systems:

  • 60 mm Vulcan Guns
A pair of head-mounted gun pods.
  • Giant Revolver (G Revolver)
On the waist there are a pair of large pistols; they also act as the main cannons for its aircraft form, the R-Wing. When R-1 receives a performance boost in Alpha Gaiden, the Giant Revolvers are switched out for Giant Tonfa Revolvers (GT Revolvers). They are mostly identical to the original design, but with added reinforcement to their body so that they may be used as melee weapons.
  • Cold Metal Knife (Steel Knife in the English localization)
    A short-melee knife stored within the R-1.
  • Boosted Rifle
    The R-1's long-range energy rifle.
  • T-Link Knuckle
The R-1's signature attack. It uses the T-Link System to channel psychic energy into the R-1's knuckles to devastate the enemy mech with psionic punch attacks. The R-1's reinforced knuckles are durable to withstand the intensity of the psionic energy charge. R-1 Kai uses the T-Link Knuckle Kai, a stronger version of the original attack
  • Tenjō Tenge Nendō Shindō Ken
R-1's T-Link Sword attack. This version hurls a psionic energy sword at the enemy mech; targets multiple enemies.
  • Tenjō Tenge Nendō Hasai Ken (Heaven and Earth Psychic Crusher Sword)
Another of the R-1's T-Link Sword attacks. Hurls a highly-charged sword of psionic energy at the enemy target.
  • Akashic Breaker:
A simultaneous attack of Cybuster's deadly Akashic Buster and the R-1's T-Link Knuckle. Cybuster transforms into Cybird then does the Akashic Buster. While Cybird glides in the air coated with flames, R-1 jumps, rides on Cybird and charges its knuckle. In one blow, both units plunge into the unfortunate enemy. R-1 beats the crap out of the enemy by giving one lethal punch and Cybird finishes the job by colliding and roasting it together. This attack is only seen in Super Robot Wars Alpha DC.
  • Formation R:
A synchronized attack by the R-1, R-2, and R-3. Ryusei transforms the R-1 into its R-Wing mode to close with the enemy, while Rai and Aya fire their Hi-Zol Launchers and Strike Shields respectively. Once Ryusei is close enough, he changes form and finishes the enemy off with a T-Link Knuckle.

[edit] R-Wing Specifications

Weight: 50.2 tons

Weapon Systems:

  • Homing Missiles
There are a pair of missile launchers mounted on the body for long range attacks.
  • Giant Revolver (G Revolver)
The G-Revolvers in this mode can be used as cannons for the R-Wing. In SRW Alpha, it may use these cannons for a MAP attack that does light damage to any surrounding units.
