Real Club Deportivo España, Real España, or simply El España is a Honduran football club, which currently plays in the first division in San Pedro Sula, Cortés department, Honduras. The club was founded 14 July 1929. Real Club Deportivo España in English would be Royal Sport Club Spain. The royalty status was given to the team by the Spanish king during one of his visits to Honduras. This makes Real Club Deportivo España the only royal club in the whole American continent.

It was considered the greatest and most popular team of San Pedro Sula and the second in the whole country during the 70´s, 80's, and the early 90's, but a very irregular performance during the late 90's and the XXI century has cause the team to loose some fans and respect, in comparison to the Marathon and the Motagua, that took the España's place as the second greatest teams of the country. The team could not classify to the playoffs in tha last season, ending in the sixth place. This caused the team to increase its playoff missing streak to a fourth . It is the third most successful team of Honduras and outside of the Honduras boundaries the country's second most well konwn team .

España's colours are black and yellow. This is why Real España's nickname is the aurinegros (compound word meaning yellow and black). The club logo was changed since 2006 to give a younger, more fresh look. The mascot has been changed many times, sometimes it's a yellow and black owl sometimes a train and most recently a robot.

[edit] Supporters

España's fans are the Mega Locos (Mega Crazies) who are part of the Mega Barra (Mega Fan Group) which is the most well konwn and radical fan group of Honduras. They are well known by their acts of destruction and violence. Their violence has cause trouble to the Real España and to the other teams, especially the Real Españas rival the Olimpia. Some of their most famous acts of violence were throwing bricks at an Olimpian team member in two different occasions.
