[edit] Plot
Samantha Madison, still teen ambassador to the UN, as well as dating the president's son, David, is worried David wants to take their relationship to the next level. She is still a semi-celebrity for saving the president's life. The president (only referred to as Mr. President) recently announced his Return to Family campaign. It includes plans to limit abortion and birth control. Samantha is faced with a huge dilemma when it appears that she not only condemns the president's new Return to Family policy on an MTV special., but also implies that she has slept with David. During this time, Samantha’s sister Lucy is also conflicted because she has fallen in love with her SAT tutor, who does not return her ardor.
David invites Sam to Camp David for Thanksgiving weekend. Sam sees this as further proof that David wants to go the next level. They end up doing it, although David tells Sam he didn't realize he was giving off signs that he wanted to take the relationship further.
This is a surprisingly political book with a positive attitude about sex. The themes are more mature than those of The Princess Diaries series. This is the first of Meg Cabot’s teen books to deal with issues such as sex and masturbation.
