- The correct title of this article is reacTable. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.
The reacTable is an electro-acoustic music instrument with a tabletop Tangible User Interface that has been developed within the Music Technology Group at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. It consists of a translucent table with a projector and a video camera underneath it. Visual processing software detects the position and orientation of specially-marked objects that are freely moved on the table surface. These physical objects represent the modules of a classic modular synthesizer. The computer vision software behind reacTable is open-source.
The instrument has been presented and performed at various festivals and conferences such as Ars Electronica, Sónar, NIME and SIGGRAPH.
