RE/MAX International is an international real estate company. It was founded in 1973 by David and Gail Liniger in Denver, Colorado and is still owned by its founders.
RE/MAX International oversees a network of more than 120,000 agents in more than 63 countries with more than 6,000 offices. The network is made up of more than 70 regions, varying in size from a metropolitan area to an entire country. As noted by RE/MAX on its web site, "the RE/MAX franchise network is a global real estate system of franchisee owned and operated offices and their affiliated independent professionals".
The company owns the franchise to several regions of the country, as well as overseeing and licensing individual franchises for real estate sales offices. As it notes on all advertisements, "Each office is individually owned and operated". RE/MAX International collects monthly and annual dues from its agents who act as independent contractors working under real estate brokers in many countries. In return, it provides corporate services to its brokers and agents such as an in-brokerage satellite television network for agent training and exposure at a national level through television and other media advertising.
It is the largest real estate agency in Canada and the United States, with the most sales in a number of markets. Its agents operate out of over 6,000 offices worldwide. The company logo is a hot air balloon; the company slogan, "Above the Crowd". Real RE/MAX balloons exist and sometimes appear at balloon festivals.[citation needed]
Entrepreneur Magazine in January 2006 placed RE/MAX International in the No. 8 position (up from No. 10 in 2005) in its 27th Annual Franchise 500. RE/MAX also ranks as Best of the Best for real estate services for the sixth time in seven years.
