[edit] Plot
Jimmy Roberts is a 12-year-old boy who can't seem to say no to anybody, and as a result, ends up getting taken advantage of on a regular basis, even by his best friend Craig. This problem continues during his class trip to Golly World, where he first misses out on many of the rides because Craig suggests to the popular kids that Jimmy hold their items for them, in an attempt to make his friend popular. The popular childeren then, on Craigs suggestion, tell Jimmy to go try to find Milt Appleday's frozen brain, which supposedly is hidden somewhere in Tux's Arctic Adventure. As usual, Jimmy unwillingly gives in, and once there, bumps into Milt's son Sonny, who is attempting to retrieve the brain from underneath the ice. After being spotted by Sonny, Jimmy quickly flees and during his escape, accidentally runs onto the path of an oncoming train and is sent to the hospital, where Milt's brain (which one of the doctors keeps in his lunch cooler) is transplanted into his head. He makes it out of the operation just fine with his personality intact(explained by the doctors salvaging his "personality gland") but, he can now see all of Appleday's characters in real life, while no one else can.
With the help of his crush, Robin, who is also Craig's sister, Jimmy and the characters learn that the reason they've lost their popularity is thanks to Sonny, who ruined their cartoons through his own ideas, especially Golly who is crushed to learn that his top spot as most popular cartoon character in the world has been reduced to nothing but he figure with Jimmy now at the helm, he can quickly make him a star again. Now that he's president of Appleday Pictures (Sonny was fired by the Chairman of the Board), Jimmy is immensely popular, but no longer has time for school or his friends. To make matters worse, Sonny has rented out a room in his house and now lives with his family, all the while constantly scheming to get Milt's brain out of Jimmy's head and for himself. In the end, his plan is to modify Crocco's train to include several dangerous devices on it that, as he believes, will decapitate Jimmy and get him what he wants.
Eventually, Robin attempts to point out to Jimmy that the cartoons are walking all over him just like everybody else used to, but he denies this and takes off for his television debut, leaving her behind to encounter Sonny, who says that since she knows his plan, he'll have to do away with her. At the studio, Jimmy tells the ego-maniac Golly that all that the Presidency of Appleday Studios has gotten him isn't what he really wanted which drives Golly to get so angry at him and shouts at him that it is impossible for him to say no to anybody. Jimmy finally realizes Robin was right and denounces his position as President, causing the show to be canceled. Sonny, however, still wants the brain, and has tied Robin down to the train tracks, forcing Jimmy and the characters (even Golly who apologizes along the way) to go save her - in the danger-ridden train.
Luckily, Robin is saved from being run over, and Sonny's plan is foiled. She and Jimmy return to Craig's house, where he was planning to throw a party with Jimmy as the guest of honor, and everything is patched up between them.
Unfortunatley at the end they show Jimmy on his way to school and life seems to be better than before. But, Sonny still wants the brain and he is hiding behind a curtain with a device that he presses a button on it and a crane crashes down near Jimmy that seemed to be used for grabbing his head off. Jimmy goes to school and everyone leaves and Sonny laughs evilly and Jimmy's sister pops in and tells him to shut up. Sonny is still hunting Jimmy but doesnt seem to be a threat.

This problem continues during his class trip to Golly World, where he first misses out on many of the rides because Craig suggests to the popular kids that Jimmy hold their items for them, in an attempt to make his friend popular. [edit] Craig
A hip hop boy who has a weired Grandpa. Craig seems to also take advantage of Jimmy on a daily basis and is mad at Jimmy for leaving him at Golly World even though he knew he was in the Hospital! He wants to be cool and uses Jimmy to make him more popular and uses Jimmy's brain as an excuse for him to say he's popular. and using it to get them to come to his birthday party. Which are there because they think Jimmy will be there. He's hyper and kinda annoying and will do anything to be cool.
[edit] Robin
Robin is Jimmy's crush. She is an Appleday Pictures biggest fan.
[edit] Sunny (Sonny) Alabaster Appleday
He is the only son of Milt Appleday and had the nickname Booger for his odd and un-normal behavoir. He has a very good evil laugh and announced his plans out loud that people around him catch on very fast and know his plans which is the reason his plan failed. He is crazy and a crock pot and at the end shows that he misses his father very much and seems to be very sad about the fact that his father is dead. He wants the brain so he can use his Dad's mind and the cartoons that he would see if he got the brain to be a great cartoonist and then plans to take over the world. He gets sassed alot of Jimmy's sister who tells him to shut up and stop shouting out his plans. He always says he's going to call her a name the next time she tells him so shut up but never did and yet makes up new things to say back which arent very bright. He obeys only Jimmy's sister for her stern attitude and shouting at him which he obeys and whines about it often. He is immature and stuffed food into his mouth so he could leave the table early in the movie. He wears a cape alot that shows his evil. And has alot of dirt on his face that also shows his evil inside him. He shouts alot and laughs alot even though he is a faliure.

Which Sonny remarked is weird. She takes it personally when she is insulted that she is an alien. She has a sharp attitude and doesnt interact with Jimmy very often. She hates Sonny for his dis-respectful attitude and he tried killing her in the middle of the movie which angered badly making her yell at him to go upstairs. She does care about Jimmy for at the end she made Sonny dissapear trying to save Jimmy and she disspeared after that.

[edit] Reception
[edit] Goofs
- The train that hit Jimmy at Golly World obviously did not have enough power to send Jimmy flying through the air (it should be noted that this scene was edited, by the way). Instead, the real result would be Jimmy falling and being crushed by the train, thus killing him. However, it should be noted that the real world itself in this movie is cartoon like aswell, seeing as a brain transplant, which the entire plot is based around, would be impossible (and if it were, he would take on Milts memories, personality, ect. Not just see his cartoons. Although, the doctors state they managed to preserve his personality.).
- An original model Game Boy Advance is used in an early scene, with an unlabeled, black colored original Game Boy cartridge in it. A student states that the game just came out that day. This is strange considering that: a new game usable on the original Game Boy has not been released for 5 years; the original Game Boy Advance has been out of production since 2003; black colored cartridges are usually bootleg and unlicensed games, sold in import stores and pawn shops usually, unless it was one of the games Nintendo made where they have original pallette and GBC color pallette on one cartridge (but one of these, again, has not been released in many years).[1]
- In the scene where Craig is holding a juice box, when the camera changes positions, so does the juice box from one hand to the other.
- In later scenes, Sonny's mustache seems to appear and disappear in between scenes although in the end it was discovered to be a removable false mustache.
[edit] Notes
- Golly The Gopher makes a surprise cameo in a poster (Parody of Space Jam, which is also a Live-Action-Animated Movie) in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends movie "Good Wilt Hunting". McKeon and Pava were also writers for the animated series.
- Golly is voiced by Paul Reubens, best known for his role as Pee-wee Herman.
- Dolly's voice is done by Ellen Greene, best known for her role as Audrey in both the off-Broadway and 1986 movie version of Little Shop of Horrors.
- The first American sneak peak at the film Eragon was shown in two parts, showing two approximately 4 minute clips of the movie, as they are in the movie.
- The teaser for the My Gym Partner's a Monkey TV movie "The Big Field Trip" aired during the premiere.
- The voice of Tux, Tom Kenny, is also the the voice of Spongebob Squarepants
- In the scene when Sonny is fired from his job as the president and Jimmy is hired some workers at the table in the conference room were talking, one of the workers was played by Tom Kenny who played Tux and is the voice of SpongeBob Square Pants and Raimundo Pedrosa from Xiaolin Showdown.
- A Behind The Scenes of Night at the Museum was also shown during the premiere.
- Gollyworld, the theme park in the movie, is actually Scandia in Ontario, California.
- There are multiple Open Source references in the movie, including a character called Tux, and a band "The Gnus"
- A day after the premeire, a 'Caption' version of the movie was shown. with subtitles and captions. (In supported TVs)
- This is the fourth Cartoon Network original movie, and the first to have nothing to do with any recent Cartoon Network original series.
- This movie combines Adobe Flash animation with live action.
- Tommy Snider, one the hosts of Cartoon Network's 'Fridays' plays the bush that follows Sonny to Appleday Studios Board of Director's meeting. Much of the behind the scenes footage shown on Fridays is Tommy 'preparing' for his role.
- In a meeting at the Board of Directors, Sonny is fired as president of Appleday Studios and replaced by Jimmy.
- When Golly is introducing himself to Jimmy, he mentions how popular he is. Jimmy then asks him "Why are there two of you?", confusing Dolly for a second Golly. The characters then make mention that they look the same, except for Dolly's bow. This is a reference to how Mickey and Minnie Mouse look the same in terms of design, Minnie's bow and eyelashes make her different from Mickey.
[edit] Cultural references
- "The Marvelous Mind of Milt/Jimmy" Is a Spoof of "The Wonderful World of Disney."
- This title is pun of the film Re-Animator.
- The animatronic Milt Appleday uses technology similar to famous Disney attractions such as the Hall of Presidents and Madame Leota from The Haunted Mansion.
- A Class of 3000 poster can be seen in Jimmy's room. The first trailer of the movie was also aired during the Class of 3000 premiere.
- Golly Gopher and Dolly Gopher are supposedly parodies of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
- Crocco and Tux are supposedly parodies of Goofy and Donald Duck.
- The movie is inspired by two urban legends about Walt Disney, one stating his brain was frozen cryogenically and another stating that it is stored in the cap of the Matterhorn at Disneyland, the former is untrue although there is a small basketball court hidden in the Matterhorn.
- Fred Willard's character, Milt Appleday, is based on Walt Disney and apparently his last name is a pun on the phrase "An apple a day keeps the doctor away".
- When Jimmy comes in during Sonny's meeting with the Board of Directors, Sonny is fired as president of Appleday Pictures, a parody of the firing of corrupt Senior Vice President Dick Jones in RoboCop.
- When Jimmy enters the "Cartoon World" it shares a simularity with "Kingdom Hearts" when Sora's sent to the magic world.
- Tux make a referance to how unsucessful Disneyland Paris was when it opened by saying,"whats black and white and emptier than Gollyworld Paris" and Gollyworld is an obvius parody of the Disney theme parks
