RC10

The Associated Electrics RC10 series is quite possibly the most famous and successful in the history of hobbyist radio-controlled car racing. The original RC10 was first introduced in 1984 as an electric, 1:10 scale offroad "buggy". Associated had previous success with its 1:12 scale RC12 on-road electric R/C car, but the RC10, a ruggedly designed off-road race machine, was their major breakthrough.
Since that time, the RC10 and its companion truck series, the RC10T, have each gone through three major design revisions, denoted by their model ("B" for buggy, "T" for truck, and "TC" for touring car), as well as a revision number. For example, the latest model from each series are the RC10B4, the RC10T4, and the RC10TC4. The RC10T is also available as a gas-powered "nitro" model, the RC10GT; as well as the new RC10GT2.
All RC10 models are primarily offered as a literal scale model which must be completely assembled from a parts kit. In recent years, however, Associated has offered Ready-To-Race (RTR) pre-assembled models which generally command a much higher price, eventhough they still lack R/C electronics. There is also somewhat of a social stigma attached to purchasing an RTR model, since buying a model pre-made removes much of the hobbyist substance of assembling and tuning ones' own car.
