[edit] Indigenous Australians
Hi Ray, there is a problem with the Indigenous Australians article which requires a bit of re-wording. 'Indigenous Australians' are not the first inhabitants of the Australian continent, but only of the mainland, Tasmania & Torres Strait islands. Melanesians arrived in and colonialised the continent {Papua) at the same time when the continent was still in one instead of three parts; but as the mainland community seem to have forgotten about Papua along with the western world since the 1930s when Standard Oil found the gold and wanted Western Papua to be forgotten & colonised by a pro-business Asian power; it requires a bit of tactfull wording.211.30.95.182 03:41, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the comment - interesting point. How about you have a go at doing it, as you seem to know much more about it than I do;-) ? Rayd8 11:53, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Indigenous Australians article length
My point about not inserting the aboriginal flag was not because of the length of the article, but about copyright. I made the further poiint that because of the length of the article we shoud be wary of inserting too many images, including say such images that are already included elsewhere such as those depicting the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. I think an photo of the Aboriginal flag flying would be appropriate and not subject to copyright. We do not currently have a good photo available right now - on my list of things to do ...
I agree that it seems a shame to restrict the information content of the article because of its length. I agree with the proposal to break this article up into smaller articles. The most obvious section to develop as a separate article is Indigenous Australians#Issues facing Indigenous Australians today, with a link from the Indigenous Australians article to the fuller article plus a brief summary of issues. Note naming conventions at Wikipedia:Naming conventions. Perhaps the article should be called Australian Indigenous issues? I am not sure, it is a little hard. Probably should be referred to the Indigenous Australians discussion page for advice.--A Y Arktos 22:29, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes - good idea. I'll do that now. Rayd8 22:42, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Aboriginal deaths in custody article
Hi there
I marked the article for cleanup because I believe that it could improve a lot if it is submitted to a small reediting and "wikification". Right now the article reads as if it was copied directly from some source other than wikipedia and doesn't read as a wikipedia article. To make matters worse, the article isn't even inserted in any category, which is a shame.
So, having noticed that, I believe that a "cleaning" tag can improve the article a lot and therefore bring more value to wikipedia and a more fulfilling experience to those who read it.
Hope this helps --Mecanismo | Talk 19:19, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
P.S.: when posting comments in someone's talk page, please make you comment a sub-section. It leaves the talk page organized and makes it easier to read the messages and also follow the conversation's thread. Another thing which you could do is to edit your signature so that it has a link to your talk page. That will make it much easier to write you a message.
