Rayavaram is located at 10.25° N 78.81° E.It is a small hamlet in Pudukottai District.It is 72 km south of Trichy and 90 km North of Madurai.The nearest town [Pudukottai 18 km far.The closest Airport is Tiruchy. It is well connected by road and has at least 75 buses covering Pudukottai,Karikudi,Pudukottai and Arimalam and Aranthangi. It consists of Pudur,Palayaoor ,Alangudi Chettipatti,Chellayeepuram,Chockalingapuram and Vasugipuram.

Rayavaram is the first village to permit low class people to allow entry to Temples. Vai-Govindan Chettiar is the First Tamil Publisher from this town.Its main economy is through agriculture.In the harvest season of May,Muthumariamman temple has a 10 day temple festival (Thiruvilla).The great Tamil lyricist Kannadasan ran a magazine for sometime from Rayavaram.Kulanthai Kavingar (Tamil Children song lyricist) Ala Valliappa hails from this village.Sri.PL.RM.Palanaiappa chettiar of this village was the MLA in the year 1952.Late Sri.SM.Palaniappa chettiar of Palaniappa Brothers had the credit of publishing Konar Notes (Tamil guides for Schools).Sri Pon.RamalingamDMK has been elected the Panchayat Union Chairman of Arimalam for the second term.Chess Champion Arti Ramasamy is also from Rayavaram.
