Ray Turner

Ray Turner (born Raymond Andrew Turner in Australia 1942)is a musician. He is best known for his distinctive singing voice and unconventional hair styles. Undoubtedly the best example of his work is his 1984 single "Empty Chairs" which, although widely criticised by the music industry, earned him many fans.

Little is known about his upbringing and he has guarded his privacy very closely over the years. It is widely believed that Ray was taught the piano at a very early age and showed great promise as a classical pianist. Unfortunately a wrist injury put pay to his early musical career and he turned his energies to acting. He appeared in many school and amateur dramatic productions up until his "troubled" teenage years. This time spent treading the boards could account for Rays electric stage presence during his 1980s live performances. In 1986 during Rays "Beaches" tour, 500 baseball caps were printed up to commemorate the tour. The caps all displayed the text "Rays Sandy Stage". The shed where the caps were stored prior to the tour caught fire and it was thought all of the caps were destroyed. It has however recently emerged that some of the caps escaped the blaze and are now highly sought after collectors items. Ray was approached by the makers of "Deep Heat" cream in 1996 to pen a song to promote their new range of therapeutic slippers. Unfortunately his song met with some copyright problems due to the similarities between it and the Police classic "Every Breath You Take". The slippers did not meet sales targets and were taken off the shelves within a couple of weeks. Perhaps with Ray's song "Every Step You Take" they would have done much better?
