Ray Finkle

Ray Finkle is a fictional character in the 1994 comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Finkle was the starting placekicker for the Miami Dolphins. He missed the winning field goal in the closing seconds of Super Bowl XVII and blamed holder Dan Marino for not holding the laces of the football out away from him during the kick (all of course, fictional). As revenge, Ray assumed the identity of a female detective named Lois Einhorn (played by Sean Young). In the movie, he abducts the mascot Snowflake, and eventually quarterback (Dan Marino) himself. The footage for the "Kick Heard Round The World" was authentic as it was (Uwe von Schamann)'s missed field goal in Super Bowl VII.
In reality, the Dolphins did play in Super Bowl XVII, which, like Super Bowl VII, featured the Washington Redskins as their opponent, and they did lose the game. But there are differences with the movie: The Dolphins wore their home green uniforms and the Redskins white, as opposed to Super Bowl VII, when the Redskins wore red and the Dolphins white; the game did not come down to the final play, as the Redskins won, 27-17; and David Woodley was the Dolphins' quarterback in that game. Marino was then drafted as Woodley's replacement, and played in only one Super Bowl: In the 1984-85 season, the Dolphins were defeated 38-16 by the San Francisco 49ers. In both Super Bowl XVII and Super Bowl XIX, the Dolphins' kicker was Uwe von Schamann, one of the league's better kickers at the time. The "Kick Heard Round The World" idea was based on Buffalo Bills kicker Scott Norwood's missed field goal in Super Bowl XXV.
