Ray Davis (banker)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ray Davis (birth date unknown) is an American banker and entrepreneur. He is currently CEO and president of the publicly-trade financial institution called Umpqua Holdings Corporation.

[edit] Career

Davis left the banking consulting firm he helmed in 1994 to join Umpqua Holdings Corporation. Umpqua had made money every year it had been in existence, but it was still a sleepy little bank, ranked only number three in Oregon state in market share, and about $40 million dollars in deposits behind number two.[1]

[edit] Notability

Davis has been credited with being at the forefront of modern consumer banking by changing the traditional setup of bank branches. All Umpqua bank branches are called 'Bank Stores' with a greater emphasis on retail and services.[2]

Many Umpqua Bank Stores are devoid of back-office operations, and all rely on 'Universal Associates' as employees instead of the traditional specialized banking disciplines.
