Ravensthorpe is a town 550 km southwest of Perth, 40 km inland from the south coast of Western Australia.

The area was prosperous at the turn of the 20th century with gold and copper mining but declined with World War I There also was one of the isolated Western Australian Government Railways isolated branch lines between Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe. After the war Ravensthorpe survived servicing the farming in the district. More recently nickel mining is being developed and a nickel refinery is currently being built 30 km east of the town site.
