RAV-FM
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
90.7 RAV FM is a Canadian radio station, owned and operated by Vaughan Secondary School. It is part of the school's radio broadcasting course, and is one of Canada's only radio stations licensed to a high school. It is a low-power broadcaster, and its legal call sign is CFU758.
RAV FM first signed on in the year 1999.
RAV FM is run by the RAV FM club in Vaughan Secondary School. The station runs using DirEttore Automation technology. In the past, the RAV FM club has also run community concerts such as RAVOLUTION, and Summer Jam.
The station broadcasts at 90.7 on the FM dial. It is licensed to provide a low power signal from on top of the school (with its studios located on the second floor of the school and additional equipment placed on the restricted fourth floor). This signal is fairly strong around the school, and travels farthest in a southwest direction from the school (toward York University/Jane and Finch). The approximate diameter for reception of RAV-FM under normal weather conditions is as far north as Highway 7, as far west as Highway 400, as far south as Eglinton Avenue and as far east as Yonge Street. In better weather conditions, the station may be heard as far south as St. Clair Avenue.
RAV FM used to broadcast on 106.3 FM, however that was changed to 90.7 at the request of Industry Canada in 2002.
Rob Basile, [1] the original founder of RAV-FM, is presently teaching at another high school north of Toronto.
