[edit] Plautus '04
[edit] Jan 12
- Using the IP address User:24.79.3.230 (contribs), Plautus:
- rewrote Space Shuttle Columbia disaster to say that it was shot down by the US government as part of a plan to help get a military shuttle replacement built to service the International Space Station "weapons platform". [1]
- vandalizes Ilan Ramon with obviously anti-semetic remarks. [2] [3]
[edit] Feb 13
- 05:45, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)
- Plautus makes this inflammatory edit to Black hole, alleging that they do not exist. This provokes an edit war, during which he is reverted by 67.70.170.207, Morwen, Evercat, Modemac, Isomorphic, Jwrosenzweig, Cyp, and SheikYerBooty. The only comment explanation he offers is "black holes are a popular myth like god". Snoyes protects the page at 16:56.
- 16:50, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)
- Meanwhile, over at Albert Einstein, Plautus has made these edits [4] [5], stating that Einstien was undoubtedly a plagiarist. (The second one is, for the record, a copyvio of this). Surprise surprise, he is shortly embroiled in an edit war here too. Here, he is reverted by Isomorphic, Frecklefoot, 67.70.167.201, 67.69.166.154, 67.68.252.90, and 67.70.170.207. It is protected by Raul654 at 16:11.
- 17:35, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)
- Still embroiled in the above wars, Plautus starts editing Space Shuttle Columbia disaster to illustrate his belief that it was shot down. [6]. He ends up being reverted by SheikYerBootyl, Isomorphic, 67.70.170.207, Morwen, Evercat, Modemac. It is protected by Raul654 at 17:08, Feb 13, 2004.

[edit] Feb 16
- (Approximately time) 02:00, Feb 15, 2004
- Silsor reluctantly unblocks Plautus, citing his promise to unban him after 24 hours.
- 15:33, Feb 16, 2004 (UTC)
- Wikipedia talk:How to revert a page to an earlier version - Despite being warned many times not to remove comments from talk pages, Plautus deletes comments from other editor, issues warning in the history summary: (Raul, this is your last warning, you know the rule, remove that garbage before it's done for you.) [13]
- 15:47, Feb 16, 2004
- Plautus moves comments from Wikipedia talk:How to revert a page to an earlier version to his talk page, with the appended message: I have absolutely NO FAITH in the "good faith" of the above passages. Raul654, I think you are a real jerk. You refused to take this crap off a page where it didn't belong, so now I've done it for you. Don't let this happen again, or I'll have to not call you a pathetic infant with a soiled diaper. [14]
- 19:39, Feb 16, 2004 UTC
- Raul654 gives Plautus a final chance [15] and despite his sarcastic response (I'm not even going to bother to defend my edits, though you seem to have felt the need to defend your actions by once again shining the Raul654 special-spectrum light on it.) Raul654 even clarifies the offer [16]. Plautus refuses. Shortly thereafter Plautus vandalizes Talk:Black hole to remove another user's comment [17], and Raul654 bans him. Wikipedia rejoices [18] [19].
[edit] Feb 17
- 15:32:41 UTC, Feb 17 2004
- Uses "email this user" function to email (all? many?) administrators with this reasonable sounding email, requesing that he be unbanned: User:Bcorr/Plautus#Original_email_from_Plautus (Not all: I didn't get. --user:MyRedDice Neither did I. RickK)
- 17:21:52 UTC, Feb 17 2004
- Those who reply receive emails like this one that are profane and insulting: User:Bcorr/Plautus#Plautus's_first_response_to_my_reply
- 18:10:08 UTC, Feb 17 2004
- Admins (who replied? all admins?) receive this email, also profane and insulting: User:Bcorr/Plautus#Plautus's_third_email (Not all: I didn't get. --user:MyRedDice)
- 20:40:51 UTC, Feb 17, 2004
- Admins (who replied? all admins?) receive this email from a supposedly repentent Plautus: User:Bcorr/Plautus#Plautus's_fourth_email (Not all: I didn't get. --user:MyRedDice)
[edit] Feb 18
- 17:34, Feb 18, 2004 (UTC)
- Fresh from his latest ban, Plautus promises not to bloat wikipedia's database by offering the same edit more than once. [22]
- 18:25 – 19:38, Feb 18, 2004 (UTC)
- Plautus makes a series of eight edits to Talk:Black hole page, the beginning of a destructive refactoring, no archives made, just comments moved and deleted. [23] (Previous deletes to this page. [24])

[edit] Feb 19
- 03:59, Feb 19, 2004 (UTC)
- 05:04, Feb 19, 2004 (UTC)
- Following failed discussion on Plautus' talk page, wherein Raul654 is concilliatory and Plautus is sarcastic and uncooperative, [31][32][33][34] (including some great quotes from Plautus, like Agreement does not always mean compromise. Sometimes it means pure concession by one party.), Raul654 creates Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Plautus satire
- 16:26, Feb 19, 2004 (UTC)
- 22:39, Feb 19, 2004 (UTC)
- Begins to argue on Talk:September 11, 2001 attacks about the identity and whereabouts of the Sept 11 hijackers. [36]
[edit] Feb 20
- All day Feb 20, 2004
- Edits Talk:September 11, 2001 attacks to imply that the events of the day were an Israeli conspiracy. He never says this outright, but a long recital about 5 Israelis being caught going around trying to blow up the George Washington bridge (or something) gives that impression. He also argues that some of the Sep 11 hijackers are still alive, but is vague on detail. He also seems to think that there was no proper FBI investigation. One example of many: [37]
- He also argues over the 'correct' transcribing of Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda from Arabic to English using misinterpreted sources, and the FBI's preferred spelling of bin Laden's name. [38] has an example of his arguments. This deteriorates into an edit war in September 11, 2001 attacks towards the end of Feb 20.
- 20:30, Feb 20, 2004 (UTC)
- Changes picture caption of impact crater on moon to reflect fringe science beliefs. History summary: (changed caption of crater image: this crater has a flat bottom and a raised center, this is indicative of plasma discharge, not an impact as the caption suggested-also removed image credit) [39]
[edit] Feb 21
- Early morning
- The edit war over the spelling of Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida continues ([40] and [41] is an example of the edit war), leading to September 11, 2001 attacks being protected [42].
- 15:58, Feb 21, 2004 (UTC)
- Hubble space telescope changed to "spy satellite". [43]
- Reverts fix at least six times in 24 hours[44] and attempts to defend statement in Talk:laser star hypothesis [45]
- Hubble space telescope changed to "spy satellite". [43]
[edit] Feb 22
- 02:46, Feb 22, 2004 (UTC)
- Vandalizes User:Evercat/Plautus, where Evercat was documenting Plautus' bad behavior. [46] - Evercat was on vacation at the time. On the talk page, Raul654 says [47] that while Evercat is on vacation, the page is not to be changed. Silsor reverts, and Plautus promptly starts a reversion war [48]. Silsor ends the war by protecting User:Evercat/Plautus. Plautus lists Sislor on the Wikipedia:Possible misuses of admin privileges. (I dunno if this was really vandalism, he was just clarifying his actual beliefs... - Evercat)
- On the misuses of priviliges page, Plautus goes on to accuse Raul654 of lying [49] (which he later admits is groundless [50]), and accuses Silsor of manipulating version histories [51] (and is later informed that only a developer can do this). He even promises to leave Wikipedia [52], but does not follow through. (On Feb 23, he explained that he had only intended to stop editing articles, as opposed to their talk pages. - see [53]). Despite his causal slander against two admins, he's not humbled by the experience at all. [54].
- Evercat)
- All day Feb 22, 2004
- Plautus demands mediation with Curps. [55]
- Minutes later adds et al to complaint and includes Raul654 , SheikYerBooty, and Evercat. All four editors agree to mediation within hours. [56]
- Plautus stalls and accuses member of mediation staff (Sannse) of meddling, telling that person to stay out of this [57]. Sannse was acting in capacity of mediator and trying to assist process.
- Plautus later realizes his mistake but leaves rude messages in place.[58]
- Later in the day Feb 22, 2004, early morning Feb. 23, 2004
- Platus skirmishes with Roadrunner, Decumanus and others at Talk:Quasar over his ongoing attempts to include a fringe theory in the introductory paragraph. When challenged over his citations by Decumanus, he becomes increasingly strident and finally resorts to wholesale rearrangments of edits by Decumanus in order to cover his tracks. Attempts are reverted and re-reverted by Silsor.
[edit] Feb 23
- 07:48, Feb 23, 2004 (UTC)
- Issues FINAL STATEMENT ON ALL DISPUTES on Requests for mediation page and attacks other editors, calling them thugs and dumb assholes. [59]
- 16:13, 23 Feb 2004 UTC
- Tries to duke it out in Talk:astronomy with four people about crater morphology, apparently does not read references or will not admit that this is a well researched field, maintains that it's plasma arcs. [61]
- 19:01, 23 Feb 2004 UTC
- Edits Talk:September 11, 2001 attacks to make a number of assertions about September 11 events, including that Flight 77 never crashed into the Pentagon. [62]
- Disputes passenger phone calls from Flight 11 as "unverifiable" and therefore false. It's true that we are entirely dependant on these phone calls for what happened on board there and on other planes, but the articles acknowledge this. Further, the calls have been very consistent, thus giving them credibility.
[edit] Feb 24
- 00:08, Feb 24, 2004
- Realizing that attempts to set up mediation have failed, Raul654 requests that Jimbo refer the case to the arbitration committee [63].
- 03:53, 24 Feb 2004 (and other times)
- Edits Talk:September 11, 2001 attacks to dispute that the Flight 93 passengers and crew had made ever made phone calls, except for Todd Beamer, or that they had intended to charge the hijackers. These are potentially defamatory statements.Makes errors of fact (eg the name of the operator who spoke to Beamer was anonymous). He continues these assertions the next day. [64] is one example of this.
- 22:40, Feb 24, 2004
- Writes Troll mafia (now deleted):
- Troll Mafia is the idea that trolls can coordinate and work effectively to attack people with impunity. Troll Mafia are predicted to appear to all casual observation to be sensible, rational users. By combining their efforts, Troll Mafia hypothesists predict, these meta-trolls can simultaneously give a forum the appearance of rule of law while violating the rights and granted priveleges given to all users of that forum.
[edit] Feb 25
- 14:54, 25 Feb 2004 UTC
- Wanders into Talk:Chess trying to start a fight. Starts with an obvious troll, featuring "that overview sucks a$$", shown here [65]. Later claims he was joking [66]. Entire discussion, which remains mostly civil despite further attempts at trolling, is in this version [67].
- 22:59, Feb 25, 2004 UTC
- Warned by Jimbo on his talk page - one of the most important things you can do is to avoid controversy. Don't add anything unless you're on solid ground. [68]
[edit] Feb 26
- 00:19, Feb 26, 2004
- Edits Talk:September 11, 2001 attacks and inserts five new heading titles into the middle of an ongoing discussion, splitting the posts across artificial sections.[69]
- 00:59, Feb 26, 2004
- Changes Talk:Tornado and shuffles order of discussion around for no apparent reason. [70]
- 01:40, Feb 26, 2004
- Inserts way off-topic personal attack into Talk:Tornado page [71]
- 06:57, Feb 26, 2004 (UTC)
- 15:57, 26 Feb 2004 - 17:46, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Uncle Ed offers to instruct anyone to learn the art of NPOV editing.[73] Plautus declines, he thinks he's got it down pat.[74] Ed tries one more time to extend a helping hand to Plautus. [75] Plautus is brutally honest with Ed, but shuts him down. [76] Ed tries one more time and warns Plautus that the things are heading in bad direction for him.[77] Plautus declines Ed's help, makes things things nice and sparkling clear that he thinks he's in the right. [78] Ed tries again to offer assistance to Plautus, telling him that less patient folks than I will kick you out of the project if he doesn't heed the NPOV policy. [79] Plautus shuts him down for the last time. [80]
- 17:42 Feb 26, 2004 (UTC)
- Jimbo refers the case to the arbitration committee
- Later that day:
- Plautus Sends an astonishing 33 emails to the mailing list...
- Now, even granted that he can't defend himself on Wikipedia, being temp-banned, can he not make his case more concisely, and possibly direct to the arbitrators?
[edit] Feb 27
- 16:10, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- 23:11, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Plautus continues to send perplexing e-mails to Jimbo.[118]
[edit] Feb 29
[edit] March 11
Banned from Wikipedia by the Arbitration Committee for one year [121]
[edit] July 26
Isomorphic identifies Energybone as a Plautus sockpuppet and reblocks. [122] The one year ban is reset. [123]
[edit] Plautus '05
[edit] July 27
Sends an ominous email warning of his impending return to (at least) Jimbo, Angela, Anthere, and Raul654:
- Date - Wed Jul 27 17:37:12 2005
- To: Raul654
- Subject: Wikipedia e-mail
- From: Plautus satire (email address ommitted)
- Plautus' ban expires 06:00, Jul 27, 2005.
- Later that day:
Modifies his user page ("The following people are alleged members of the Wikipedia Troll Mafia:") [124] and talk page ("DO NOT WASTE MY TIME") [125]
Plautus then leaves taunting notes on the talk pages of those who interacted with him in 2004 (principally those who were involved in getting him banned) [126][127][128][129]
Plautus is warned in no-uncertain-terms by Raul654 that the site has become much less tolerant of the behavior that got him banned [130] Plautus' reply is jejune [131] [132] This leads to a discussion in which Plautus falsely claims to have made large numbers of improvements [133], but Raul654 sets the record straight [134]
Plautus repeatedly blanks his old Request for comment, as well as listing it on VFD against policy [135]. The RFC is speedily kept (see Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Requests for comment/Plautus satire). Despite being informed of the existance of the three revert rule [136], Plautus violates it, is reported on the administrator's notice board [137], and is blocked for 24 hours by FCYTravis [138]
[edit] July 28
Spends most of the day ranting on his talk page [139] This includes a section editoralizing about Raul654's first edits as a Wikipedian. Theresa Knott points out that not only are these comments personal attacks, but they are factually incorrect as well [140] . Plautus reverts Theresa [141]
Fred Bauder notifies Plautus that his arbitration case is being reopened ([142]). Plautus responds with personal attacks - "Fuck this monkey bullshit and fuck you, Fred!] [143]
Recieves multiple concurrent bans
- From the block log:
- 14:21, July 28, 2005 Snowspinner blocked "User:Plautus satire" with an expiry time of indefinite (Because we don't need this.)
- 07:09, July 28, 2005 Fred Bauder blocked "User:Plautus satire" with an expiry time of 48 hours (Based on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Plautus_satire&diff=prev&oldid=19773597)
Raul654 protects the talk page and issues a final message to Plautus [144]
Fred Bauder incorrectly identifies A Man In Black as a sockpuppet of Plautus, based on a comment he had made on user talk:Raul654 expressing his amusement at one of Raul's comments [145] A Man In Black later goes on IRC, has Plautus's background explained to him, and Sasquatch unblocks him. The whole situation is resolved amicably ("No anger towards the admin who banned me; #wikipedia filled me in on the nutcase") [146]
[edit] July 29
FCYTravis's block expires at 00:16 UTC (automatically wiping out the other concurrent blocks). Plautus begins editing again, accusing Raul654 of inciting admins to ban him. [147]
In addition, reaching back to his 2004 modus operandi, he adds a conspiracy theory to mask [148] and is reverted shortly thereafter by Raul654 [149]
Blocked indefinitely by Smoddy at 11:24 UTC.
- 11:24, July 29, 2005 Smoddy blocked "User:Plautus satire" with an expiry time of indefinite (ongoing disruption -- conflicting blocks -- this is actually Snowspinner's block)
Plautus repeats his February 17, 2004 tactic of spamming many (all?) the admins with a request to unblock him. The text of the email is:
- Forgive me if this seems like spam, this is the only method I have available to seek redress in this situation. Raul654 has gotten my talk page protected so that I can not edit it, and no notice is put on the page to indicate that.
- Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Plautus_satire&oldid=19863722#Troll_Mafia
- Raul654 has unfairly had me banned from wikipedia. He has a personal agenda, and has banned me motivated purely by malice. If you are able to, please help reverse this ban and/or help me get Raul654 punished for his damaging and childish actions.
[edit] July 30
Unblocked by Fred Bauder at 11:18 UTC.
- 14:18, July 30, 2005 Fred Bauder unblocked User:Plautus satire (Arbitration case still pending)
Now unblocked, Plautus makes a proposal on talk:Big Bang, to modify the intro. His proposals are characterized as nonsense and "Sounds like original research to me Plautus Fred Bauder 21:51, July 30, 2005 (UTC)" Particularly telling is one comment by Plautus, alleging that [The] Big bang is essentially the Genesis myth from the bible without mentioning a deity. [150]
Makes a series of destructive edits to Planet X, alleging that the newly discovered 2003 UB313 is the 10th Planet. Is reverted shortly thereafter by Jyril [151]
[edit] July 31
Blocked indefinitely by Raul654. Snowspinner reverts and reprotects Plautus's talk page shortly thereafter.
