Nepalese Royal Family

Her Majesty Queen Ratna Rajya Laxmi is the Queen Mother of Nepal. She is the second Queen of Late King Mahendra of Nepal (d. 1950). Queen Mother Ratna belongs to the aristocratic Rana Family and is the daughter of Late Honorary General Hari Shamsher JB Rana.

After the demise of her elder sister Queen Indra Rajya Lami Devi Shah, married to King Mahendra, Queen Ratna who was the younger sister of Queen Indra, was taken as a new Queen of Nepal by King Mahendra. Queen Ratna is the first woman in Nepal to go for family planning and decided not to have children for the sake of her elder sister's children.

Her Majesty Queen Mother Ratna Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah is famous for her social work for children in Nepal.
