Ratman's Notebooks

Ratman's Notebooks is a novel by Stephen Gilbert, about a misfit named Willard Stiles who relates better to rats than to humans. It was the basis for the films Willard, Ben, and the remake Willard.

The book is set as a series of journal entries, where Willard goes back and fourth between his life with the rats and his work, in a low-level job at a company that his father used to own.

When talking about the rats he talks about their behaviors and their intelligence and how the black scaly tailed rats seem to be less intelligent than the uncommon white furry tailed rats. The white rat named Socrates is closest to him and is even training others as he uses them for company, companionship, survival and revenge
